I made an area of my little girl inside my room, I left mines and my boyfriend's shirt on her bed where she has our smell and when I go check on her when I get home, she's always so excited but I show her that it's not play time by not getting excited myself, I go and pet her and hand her a treat and tell her good girl. Few days I've been doing that and she knows when I come home to check on her is strictly just that. |

At her age, I would leave food out for her at all times. She is young and really shouldn't be away from her mother yet. She is probably stressed about being all alone, so leave the radio on and food and water for her. I agree with Magnus, I would switch foods. I personally would not feed Purina. |

I leave mine in the bedroom-he is 4 yrs-with the tv on. He knows my schedule and when I come home on time, he is very excited to see me. If I am late due to a meeting or very busy shift, he cowers on the bed and looks forlorn and heartbroken like "I thought you left me forever". Luckily, hubby and I work opposite so he is rarely alone for long unless hubby is out of town. I agree with the others about leaving food out at this age, and I think going home daily at lunch is the thing to do, if you can, at least for a couple of months, until he is past the high risk for hypoglycemia age. Also, my pup ate purina for the 1st 3 years, but once I changed him to Blue Buffalo Freedom small dog, he visibly became healthier and the inexplicable vomiting that he would have several times a month completely stopped. I highly recommend changing him from Purina. Welcome to YT! |
Hi & welcome to YT. I LOVE this site---very informative & very helpful people here. I've only had my little Milo 2 months. He's three and a half yrs old & adopted, but he does NOT want us out of his sight. I bought the Thundershirt. If it works I can't tell it. They don't guarantee that it works on ALL dogs---85% I believe. All the other ideas here sound great. I always leave on some background noise & have tried giving him a small treat, leaving for a few minutes at the time & then returning. He doesn't seem quite as anxious but he's still pretty bad. To learn more about the dog foods, try dogfoodadvisor.com. After I learned about it (from people on this site) I researched what I was feeding & didn't like what I found out. Just yesterday I bought the Blue Buffalo Wilderness & I can already tell that he likes it so much better plus it has GREAT, healthy ingredients---rated 5 stars. |
I must warn you - that if your baby becomes anything like mine - as a puppy, they chew and swallow EVERYTHING!! I have really had to be careful about certain toys and items that I let my Yorkie have. I do not give him or leave him with anything that is not safe if it's ingested, as they have tendencies to be like little vacuums. I've already spent thousands of dollars at Christmas time for an emergency surgery to have an ornament hook removed from his small intestine. |

It's expensive and only sold at Petsmart but it has a guarantee that if your pup doesn't like it, you can take it back and get a full refund. It doesn't have all the fillers that purina has. Some one told me after we got Bandit that Purina is the worst food, so I changed immediately. Congrats on your new pup. |

There's a few of you recommending to change foods from Purina to something else & I know you have good intentions...but changing food on a brand new puppy who is very young & tiny is VERY dangerous & will cause more stress. If she is eating, that is all that matters, let her eat. If you change food on her now, it will most likely cause tummy upset & bc her tummy hurts, she will not eat & that causes a whole # of complications. I would wait a couple of weeks or even months, until the puppy has reached 2 #'s to do any food switching. |
Destinydeberry: I just want to mention in case you haven't read, if/when you decide to switch food, you should do it slowly. Add little of the new food mixed with the current, see how the pup does, if she seems ok with it, add little more, replacing with the old (purina). If you can't decide on which, I suggest you contact the manufacturer. Some companies will send you a small sample to try, others will give you coupons. I hope your pup feels better soon. :) Mimimomo: I actually didn't think about that part... When she mentioned Purina, I automatically thought "not good food" so I wanted to mention perhaps a change. lol Thanks for pointing that out. :) |
