Nothing could be farther from the truth, once man steps in and domesticates an animal, they need help in breeding. This is true of some breeds more than others, but the toy breeds often have difficulty because they have been bred down from a larger size. Some people think they can make a lot of money by breeding, but in truth if you sell a puppy with a genetic illness, the puppy owner can sue you, for not only the money back, but money to treat the illness. Good breeders charge a lot, but they rarely make a profit, it costs a lot to be a good breeder. You never want to become a backyard breeder, it's a term they use for people who have never studied breeding, don't know anything about genes and how to mate the dogs to produce a better dog and don't know any of the health problems that inflicts the Yorkie and Biewer breeds. If you really love Yorkies, you won't become a backyard breeder or support them. Buying a rehome for a pet is a different matter, but you should never breed a rehomed dog, chances are it has a genetic illness, such as Luxating Patella, that means bad knees, and would pass that trait on to its offspring. It costs about $1600-2000 to fix one knee, and if you don't fix it, the dog could wind up in severe pain as it ages. Not saying this dog has it, but when you get a rehome, you have to make sure you can afford to treat any of the conditions that the dog has. |
