Microchip questions Oscar is finialy getting microchipped on Monday!! I'm getting nervous. The Vet told me that the needle they use is pretty big and he normally chip a pup during a procedure while they are under anesthesia. He's not going in for anything other than the microchip so he won't be put "under" Should I be worried? Should I expect for him to be sore? Will he be able to feel it under his skin when I pet him or even when I'm not? |
IDK! Mine had her's done as a pup/ I could feel it when I petted her, but I haven't felt it for a few months. It's probably going to hurt, like a shot does. |
The needle is sharp, so it shouldn't be worse than a regular shot. I don't think you can feel the chip unless you are looking for it. |
Hi I had my pup done 2 weeks ago, she barely flinched and it took 5 secs. They do it between the shoulder blades and the chip is the size of a grain of rice. My pup is a big baby but she was absolutely fine and running around straight after. She has never had a problem with it since having it done and the peace of mine if she goes missing or is stolen is worth a couple of seconds of discomfort. Hope that helps :) |
My Tibbe never seemed to notice it, never scratched at it, bit at it or seemed uncomfortable. And I know this dog so well I really think I'd know. He's a hypochondriac and let's me know if a hair is growing in wrong - I'm the first to know when he's got an ouchie or problem of ANY kind. So if my little hothouse flower didn't have troubles, I doubt any normal dog will. And I finally got the backbone to try to feel it about a year after he got it and I just couldn't/can't. And I figure anything that gives me an extra 1% chance of getting him back should he get lost and helping show I'm his true and legal owner, I want that chance. No one else could tend to him in the way he's accustomed other than me and I think even he would voluntarily undergo a stick if he knew it could help reunite us. |
I can feel Katie's microchip, but hers has miggrated to her upper leg. It definitely doesn't bother her when I feel around the area. You are definitely doing the right thing having him microchipped. Good luck. |
I had my kitty microchipped. It is no big deal for them. He did not even flinch |
I got both Nena and Rufus chipped when they were pups and they didn't feel a thing.. And the acted normally afterwards.. |
The rescue where I volunteer implants chips all the time, the dogs seem to be fine and it takes no time at all. Good luck and smart decision to chip your baby. |
Yup, it's no big deal for them. Barely notice it. You're doing the right thing . :) |
I had my little Yorkie, Milo, microchipped ASAP when I also had his teeth cleaned. I felt it necessary even though I didn't think there would ever be a time when I would not have an eye on him or hve him in the care of someone else who would do the same. He never seemed to notice. Anyway, you're doing the right thing! |
Turbo & Princess got their chip in w/out any problems. Like others have mentioned, the needle is very sharp, they do it very fast & painlessly. You can feel it, it's tiny & right under their skin...it doesn't bother them @ all. |

Hi the needle looks really scary and on the large size too, bigger than any human needle used, but in saying all this... mine did not even flinch Mickey the youngest was far more interested in the treats on the table, so would advise some tasty treats you know he likes and he will be fine I'm sure. It's more scary for us to watch x |
My Jilli Ann was microchipped at only three pounds. I was terrified!!! I really wanted her chipped when she went for a spay but it was taking too long to get weight on her and I wanted her chipped just in case!! Well she didn't even blink and I was so shocked and happy I almost cried. I just knew it would be horrible for her and I didn't even sleep the night before. When she went for her Rabies shot, that was bad. First the gal put the needle all the way thru the skin she held up and the serum went on the table. She filled another vile up and when she stuck it in her, the serum came out of the top of the vile. I was not waiting for another try, I took my baby, went to the front desk and told them I would never be back, and I changed Vets. |
