Is there an annual fee for micro-chipping, or do you just register them one time unless your info changes? |
I use Avid chips and I pay the fee for registering and the owner does not have to pay any additional fees as long as no information changes.... |
Thank you so much for all the info, it has definatly helped calm my nerves. I'm going to bring some grilled chicken to distract both of us! :) |
morgan was microchipped when he was neutered |
I use Home Again and there is no yearly fee - just the one-time fee. Home Again has a yearly re-up to be in their lost pet/accident insurance and other program extras that sounds as if they are charging you to keep it up if you don't read it carefully but it's not actually a charge for the basic service to notify you if your lost dog is scanned. When you pay to have the chip implanted, you pay for that basic service for a lifetime. But you have to be certain that they have your contact information registered - that the vet clinic actually provided it and it is in their system and keep it current when phone numbers, addresses, etc., change. Also, occasionally they can drop information from their database due to computer/network glitches so it doesn't hurt to check it at the beginning of each new season. |
All four of mine are chipped with Home Again as well. I like having all of them in the same company. |
Oscar did great! The vet was done before I could even give him any chicken LOL.. I am so glad I did it Monday morning! Especialy since we had the tornado that afternoon. I can't imagine ever loosing Oscar but I'm thankful there is such thing as microchipping, and I should have done it sooner. |

To the OP: I am having Princess Sophie chipped when she gets spayed at 6 months so we are keeping a really close eye on her now and probably will forever! LOL Good luck. I'm sure your baby will be fine and you are doing the best thing for her!! |
Pleased it went okay, it's great peace of mind having them chipped, you hear so many happy ending stories where a microchip has reunited lost dogs. Its law over here in the UK to have all dogs tagged and I know they are trying to make it law for all dogs to be chipped in the by 2014 |
Amy was done when she was spayed. My vet said it was easier to do it that way and she wouldn't feel it because of being under. |
I had Ian microchipped when he had his dental last Friday. I was too afraid to have it done without anesthesia, so I waited. Most people said that their pups did really well without it, so it'll probably be alright. It's probably harder for us than it is for them. |

I encourage this just because computers frequently crash, etc and I always want to be certain nothing has "dropped off" or "been lost". |

I'de like to thank yorkietalkjilly and yorkiemom1 for reminding everyone how important it is to make sure your information is always up to date also. Yazmin has Home Again as well and I receive a lot of alerts of missing pets in my area but very rare do I see their photo! It breaks my heart. :( Please remember to keep little Oscar's photo up to date also, especially since your little guy's still growing! :) |
