Kudos feet were on Fire!! These last few days it's been like 100 degrees outside . So yesterday I asked Kudos if we wanted to go outside . Of course he did, so I put him on his extendo leash and started walking down the stairs from our apartment. We walked out from the carport, into the sun. All of a sudden Kudos starts running and crying. I didn't know what was going on. Kudos ran under a tree and started licking his feet. I ran over to him and he is kind of whining now. I looked at his feet and there was nothing there, I thought maybe ants were biting him. I was bent down and I put my hand on the ground and my hand was burning HOT. Kudos did not want to move so I picked him up and wet his feet/ legs to cool him down. I then took him out later that day, when there was shade and he was fine. And Kudos had to go to the bathroom pretty bad!! Kudos feet were on fire, it was a pretty crazy day for him!! LOL But he's okay now, we are being more careful. I have to pick him up and carry him to the shade!! :) |
Awww, bless him heart! And feet!! You could carry him, but you also could probably buy him some little summer shoes/sandals or something. Maybe check out what Karen has at Dog Boots | Dog Shoes & Dog Booties :) |
Would you have walked on the concrete in your bare feet in 100 degree weather. I know you learned your lesson but this is really a no brainer |
Bless his little heart. Could you just carry him to a grassy spot? I bought high top mesh sneakers for my girls that are a blessing for them when we are traveling and have no grasses to walk them on at times. |

Your apartment doesnt have grass just rocks how unfortunate. Your gonna have to buy him some little booties to put on to protect his feet I can see how this happened now that you explained further |
Poor boy! I bet that hurt. |
poor baby |
I wait to walk mine after dinner so the pavement cools down. No grassy areas at all near by? Maybe you can find a nice shady walking path or park close to you to walk him at on hot days.:( I just saw that you're in AZ... I know it gets super hot there...so I'm no help! |
Well there is nothing near us so to go to for shade. until I get some booties, I have to pick him up and bring him up to shade. |
Do any of you know if I could get booties from Wal-Mart. I need some for Kudos and I don't know where to get them. |
I know they sell them at Petco. I seen them yesterday |

My guess would be yes but just incase they don't carry them in the store, I just searched there website & they have them! Looks like one pair are cute little sneakers lol At the bottom of the page Clothing Accessories for Dogs - Doggie Dress Up | PetSmart |
Next time I go out ill get him some. Thank you for the Link. |
Glad that your baby is ok. Ive seen stories where pups had blisters, ouch. I wear sandles most of the time in the summer so I slip one off and put my foot on the pavement to check the temp before putting my baby down. Ive seen little shoes at Petco as well. All Dogs Boots sells REALLY cute shoes for furbabys. Mina has a pair of sandles to try for the summer. |

Last summer we had an extended period of time when the temps were in the high 90's. I would take Gracie on her walks in the early morning before it got too hot and then again in the evening after things had cooled down quite a bit. She really needs her walks so we had to rearrange our waking times. We do go to an area where there are trails and a lot of trees so that helps a lot, too. Your poor little guy might still have sore feet. I hope he feels better today. |

poor lil guy. sounds like you took care of the problem wisely, I always feel the ground bf I walk the girls bc we just never realize how hot it can be for them. Not only on their paws, but you have to think that their little bodies are closer to the ground so they are going to feel the heat more. |

Hmmm about the booties, please correct me if I'm wrong, but don't dogs perspire through their paw pads? You're not supposed to cover them when it's hot no? Like, wouldn't they overheat or something? But then again, it's only for a short period of time... It gets pretty hot here in LA too, not as hot as Arizona, but in the summer time, even when we go out @ 7:30 pm, the ground is still very warm, hot to the touch. I always touch the ground to test it 1st & wait til it cools down, but they don't understand why & keeps barking @ me loll. |

I remember when I first moved to AZ and my first summer here. One day, I wanted to go out to the end of the driveway to grab the paper and OMG, my feet!!! ON FIRE! I ran/hopped so I wouldn't burn them and I could not even believe how much it hurt. I then realized the temp and DUH, hello. The pavement/concrete/pavers etc get SO hot here in AZ in the summer. I see people carrying their dogs from their car into the vet, for example, so their paws don't touch the ground. It gets really bad. Talk to Karen of All Dog Boots - she'll get you set up :). |
