chewing gum!!!! (garbage can thief)

Huey was acting weird like he does when he has something he is trying to hide, and I got a glimpse of blue. I remembered I had thrown away a piece of gum earlier, so I traded for it. Yep, it was gum. The piece appeared to be mostly whole, so if he got any, it wasn't much. Little sneak. He doesn't know that gum is bad for him, but he does have minty fresh breath for now. At least this time, I got it from him before he got it all in his facial hair. Last time I had to take him the the groomer to get the gum out of his face...I don't know how the brat gets into garbage cans that are lidded! Anyone else have a garbage can thief?

Even if it wasn't eaten, if it was chewed at all and contains xylitol he may be at risk.

Yeah, it was cobalt 5 gum which has sorbitol, not xylitol. I looked it up (1st thing after I got it away from him) I am familiar with sorbitol, it can cause diarrhea. Either way, I think all he chewed was the paper towel it was wrapped in, but I will watch him closely anyway. Thanks!

When we got Callie all the small trash cans we had we got ones with lids most of them where ones you had to push the peddle to open. It gives you one less thing to worry about.

That's what we have, but sometimes the lid gets hung open if it is too close to the vanity. I just have to pay better attention. I do not have a single can in the house that doesn't have a pedal operated lid... somehow the little sneak can still get stuff, especially if the edge of the discarded item is just barely sticking out of the lid.

Daisy is a trash can theif she will pull out my grandsons snot rags out of the bathroom trash, and eat them It is disgusting! I have to chase her around the house to get it from her. She acts like she has a piece of steak for crying out loud.
