Do your yorkies howl?
 

Usually mine dont but I dont know why but today they did 1st chachi then Jewels then chachi and so on. It was the silliest sounding howls I have ever heard kinda a raspy half howl. They did it when their daddy left to go bike riding. Do your yorkies howl? What makes them howl and how does it sound. Theirs were just so odd sounding but maybe its because Im not used to it

I've read that howling is a dog's way of sending long distance communications. They were probably talking to your husband. :)

Max will do a high pitched wooo wooo woo when I take Teddy out alone. He does it when he hears sirens too.

My Yorkie doesn't howl but my Biewer female does. She usually does it when you are wanting her to be quiet, kinda like "getting the last word in".

I've never heard Mandie howl. She moans and groans a lot when nobody is paying her attention, though. :D

Ooh! Blazer just howled the other day! I left him downstairs with Buddy, as I always do when we leave the house, but we didn't leave right away. All of a sudden I hear this odd "bark, bark, ah-OOO!" I laughed so hard! It was just so unexpected, I've never heard him howl before!

My Rubin howls, well sort of. I compare it to long squeaky sounding EWWWW. Like a pitiful sound a very young girl would whine out, if she tried to do a wolf howl. He tips his head back and does the wolf howling at the moon pose, when a Emergency Squad goes by. He gives us the stink eye when we laugh at him.

One night about 2 years ago, I was on YT (surprise!) and Peek A Boo, 14 yo then, fell asleep in the laundry room on a pile of dirty laundry. The TV was on low as it was very late at night, well actually early morning, and I hear this howling. I was busy posting and didn't give it a second thought.

Then it hit me... I am not listening to Animal Planet, it was some crime show, lol. I spun around in my chair and start looking around the house, when I see this little wolf silhouette on a mountain in my laundry room. I sat there blinking my eyes and tryng hard to focus, then I realize it's my Peek A Boo!

OMG, I laughed till I cried! I figured he might be calling to the girls (my other 3 dogs) playing Pack Leader or something. They don't usually leave him alone for long, so I thought he might have been missing them.... or calling out for reinforcements!

I had him for 9 years, and that was the very first time I ever heard him howl! I'm also a wolf lover at heart, so I found this so exciting... I have my very own Yorkie-wolf! :D He had been fast asleep, and just sat up and started howling... Ah-oooohh Ah ah ooooooh! I could even see his little lips pursed out... I'll never forget that sight and sound. Love my Little Wolf-man!

So weird you just posted this because Jackson started howling today - IN HIS SLEEP! I don't even think he realized he was doing it. Sooo funny. I got home from work, awful headache, so laid down to take a nap and he curled up at my legs. All the sudden, I was like WTF, it was the strangest howl too. Musta been dreaming. Otherwise, I can't get him to howl! I always want him to, lol.

Oh one time he copied my grandma's Foxhound, who howls when you crate her. He just flipped his head up and went at it... it was sooo funny!

Ziva howls to the emergency sirens- It is beautifully tuned so I have always encouraged it.:) Now Abby tries it too- it is more like a half cough and gag but she tries soo hard. They can be very loud and go on for awhile but it makes me laugh everytime!

My Biewers don't howl but my Havanese does. He sounds like Ah-rooooooo and you never know when he is going to do it. If you do it to him, he will mimic you and do it then. It is quite funny.

If any of mine would ever howl, it would scare the bejeezes out of me because my grandmother said that when someone close by dies, they howl. :eek: Anyway, it would still look and sound so cute. :p

Rufus howls when I leave to work. My boyfriend leaves home later than me and he hears him howl :)
He doesn't only howl when someone leaves but also early in the morning... Wednesday I stayed home and @ 7 in the morning I heard him howl but everyone was still at home. We were in the bedroom and he was in the living room, he howled for a couple of minutes and then went back to do his own thing :)

We have never heard Nena howl, it's Rufus his thing :D

My boy Dillon will howl only if I have a sneezing attack. If I sneeze several times in a row he starts howling and I just tell him 'thank you'.:)

My yorkies don't but my little Maltese does. She learned how to do it from my great pryenees. One of my yorkies acts like she's trying to do it to. It sounds just like a wolf or coyote.

Charlie has only howled 1 time there was a siren that was going on a tv show and it went for a loooong time and Charlie howled at that scared me to death since he doesnt howl normally. havent been able to get him to do it since...... maybe it just isnt in thier genetics

I have a Coton De Tulear that I taught to howl. No one thinks it's cute but me. When ever I leave her she howls loud enough that everyone can hear her. I thought it was cute at the time but she has learned a little too well. Lol

Toby will "howl" when we play the you tube video of the dog "singing and playing piano" it's hillarious. We think he is trying to sing along!

Jess doesn't howl, whine, make noises at all. Only barks

He howls when I pay attention to other dogs or when I leave the house. I can hear him howling while I'm leaving the garage. It breaks my heart every time.

I think my daughter is a dog whisperer because she taught my 1st yorkie to lay down, roll over, and speak in like 3 days. Our puppies are 4 weeks old today and she's already taught them how togrowl, bark, and howl and it is ADORABLE!! They will mimic her but won't do it for anyone else... she thinks she's the shiz now!! lol:cool:

My yorkie doesn't howl he yips but we have 2 basset hounds that howl all day.

Mine didn't until we clipped her nails today. It was the whole time and as God as my witness I did not clip any quick.
My vet has always done it before. I thought it was a little unusual he gave me tranquilizers to do it, but now I know why.
Now she is absolutely fine. During the time, I was waiting for the people in the condo next door to come see if I was murdering someone.

My little Tootsie howls all the time especially if she is eating and no one is paying attention to her, she thinks it s my job to watch her eat! Lol she is way to funny!! If she has not seen me for a while and she is being lazy she will howl till I come to see what she wants! If lil Man is irritating her she will howl to tattle on him... She has us all well trained especially me. :-)

Max was dreaming last night and did a soft "woof woof woooowooowooo." He had a good day and was re-living it. :p

:eek: Now I am going to be nervous if I hear my boys really howl.

What great stories! Here's mine...

The first time we took Lollie to a show we stopped for a potty break. Doggies first and then it was my turn. Lisa was in the car with the dogs waiting her turn. Well when I started walking across the parking lot, Lollie threw back her head and started howling. It started a tradition that lasted almost a year. It ONLY happened when we were headed to a show and I got out of the car.

First time I heard Sonic howl was in his sleep, one time while sleeping he started howling and he sit up *he was still sleeping* and I was like sonic you ok and pet him and he layed back down lol.. I think he has vivid dreams he seems to act them out, his tail wags, one of his paws moves like he is swimming, sometime he runs or howls lol. This happened like a week ago me and one of my niece's were on the way to town to pick up Chinese food I had to make a stop at grocery store for a few items, my niece stayed in the car when I came back she said sonic gave a little howl. I think it is sooo cute when he howls.

Magnus and Zoey didn\'t before until recently. We were taking our ritual weekend naps and heard the ambulance siren from a distance. Zoey woke up and started barking softly but as the siren got closer, her bark\'s pitch got higher and higher and then it turned into a howl. o_O Then Magnus joined in the same way. It was one of those "did that really happen?" moments. LOL

Now anytime they hear a siren close by, they\'ll howl. It\'s quite cute. Almost seems like they\'re talking to them. :D
