For some reason when i posted this here, this is how it posted...??? Sorry i tried to fix it but it said i went over the 5 minute limit..??? |
I can make out enough to know I wouldn't do it. Find a reputable, respectable breeder nearby and get a dog with a health guarantee, healthy lineage and from people who you know are not greeders or backyard breeders who never test their breeding pairs for health certificates or allow them to live like housepets, with all the love and daily attention and exercise, love and fun a dog is due. If you buy over the net, unless somehow you know the breeder well by email/phone/online chats and lots of word of mouth and an excellent reputation in the breed, you are probably financing puppymills and dog brokers. Did these people check you out and your dog ownership responsibility with your vet, a questionnaire and long talks, email and ask lots of questions about your family, lifestyles, other pets? If not, don't do business with them - they don't care a flip about anything but the $$$. |
Gee whiz...when I had to ship my Yorkie-Poo, I had to pay airfare for him and buy him a "Sky Kennel" from them so I seriously doubt this is real...especially since some airlines are charging for luggage these days. I am sorry, but I vote SCAM on this as well. I do hope you are able to find your Yorkie...but I doubt it will be anything like either of the two messages you've posted (that I've seen) so far. These just 'smell bad' to me, and I have NEVER bought a dog from a breeder. |
Yeah I'm starting to feel that way about EVERY ad I find:( Every reputable breeder I have contacted are asking more then I can afford to spend. I do realize that yorkies are an expensive dog but jeez at this rate I'm going to give up because I have spent countless hours over weeks looking for a puppy and getting upset with every new email or phone call made. I could be spending this time being happy with my children...Someday a yorkie will pop up if it was meant for me to have one. For now I'm done with the aggravation...It's just a bummer because it seems like everybody i know can come across a good healthy puppy that is inexpensive...and 9/10 of these people shouldn't even own an animal at all! And Here I sit in a great position to own a puppy, all the time in the world to train it and take care of it, spoil it etc. At this point I have a feeling that because I can't afford the high price tags I keep seeing ( well other then scams) I won't be able to own one of these babies anytime soon. Thanks for all the advice and opinions they are all greatly appreciated. |
I would just keep looking. They cannot find you if you aren't looking for their way of contacting you. ;) It seems like everything anymore has a horrendous SCAM factor. I think you are learning to 'read' the 'language' of the scam. If the communication sounds 'translated' to English...likely a scam. If they are promising a whole bunch for next to nothing...likely a scam. I know some highly reputable breeders will sometimes arrange transportation or delivery of a puppy...but when the whole package is less than airfare, I'd be more than mighty suspicious. There is a Yorkie baby waiting for you to help him/her find you. :) |
Finding a puppy takes lots of research and it is your job bc once you bring that puppy home it is a lifetime commitment whether it is healthy or not. There are lots of scams out there that are willing to play on your emotions of wanting a puppy or dog. A reputable breeder: Is knowledgeable about his/her breed and breed standard; Is active in the breed in some fashion, perhaps in the conformation ring, or in the performance aspect, such as obedience, agility, Has done extensive genetic testing on the breeding stock used and is willing and able to discuss whatever faults his/her dogs have (and all dogs have them. No dog is perfect.); The environment the dogs and puppies are kept in are open for your inspection and are kept sanitary; At least the dam of the litter is on the premises and is available for your inspection, with pictures and information about how to contact the owner of the sire available to you; Has provided proper medical care and nutrition to all his dogs and will provide you with medical records; Can discuss the socialization of the puppies and can make recommendations for the continued socialization and training; Will have a written contract and bill of sale Will offer a health guarantee; Will offer a genetic disease guarantee; Will take back the dog at any time during the dog's life if you become unwilling or unable to care for it. Will be available to you for advice during the life of the dog . This is what I went by when looking for a breeder |

Breeders charge a lot because it takes a lot of money to keep and breed dogs the right way and spend the money to test them to see if they are candidates for breeding. Nothing cheap anymore about getting a healthy, purebred dog. I feel your pain. |
I will look again at some point but for now I'm going to back off. it's just so frusterating!! I never thought bringing home a puppy and loving it could cause so much heartach BEFORE you even own one!! Everybody keeps telling me to go the shelter/ adoption route...which i don't have a problem with...BUT after waiting 13+ years to own our own home and for my children to be at the right age for such a small pup...It has ALL BEEN a waiting thing!! It's not like I woke up and said oh i think i want a yorkie...NO! I waited till I was in a good place to be able to provide for a puppy, I waited till my kids were old enough....You see I have done nothing but waiting and looking. I don't want to go the shelter route and get a dog that has been abused, may be sick etc....I don't want that after all this time! I want a healthy, Baby that I can raise and know that it has no problems. Animals are costly to own to begin with...why would I bring home a pet that could end up with more vet bills then a healthy pup would? Sorry for carrying on, another reason I need to just hang it up for a while. |
I'm VERY aware of the money that a pet cost I currently have 4 cats ( I have lost 2 over the past 7 years). I owned a toy poodle for 15 years, I have owned birds, rabbits, fish you name it. I have been raised around and owned many animals through out my life. This isn't my first adventure with an animal. As far as doing my homework on the breed I really feel as though over 13 years of wanting, looking and talking to people that own them, I'm pretty sure at this point, I have done more homework them most people ever think of doing when purchasing a puppy or any animal for that matter. |

Maybe that's anothr reason I'm having a hard time with the yorkie puppy thing...I have NEVER had a problem taking care of any of my animals, never lost an animal due to any other reason then old age. I have never had to face not being able to bring my animal to a vet. Maybe I'm just frusterated because every other animal I have owned was NEVER this hard to acquire...I can afford to take care of an animal once I have it home. The problem is actually getting one for under $1000.00. I know yorkies are expensive as i stated earlier but honestly I can't justify spending $1000.00 on a puppy for ME when I have 2 children...Sorry that's alot of money to spend all at once on an animal that you have to take care of for the rest of it's life, with food, vet bills etc. That's my opinion. My kids come first ALWAYS. |
I am so sorry you have done all this planning and waiting, and still are not finding the Yorkie baby of your dreams. What an awful feeling. Maybe, though, this is the 'darkness' before the 'dawn' we always hear of. ;) |

It is definitely a scam. Please don't fall for it! |

Thank you navillusc:) That sure would be nice! |

The best you could do is to look for a really good breeder, an exhibitor, who has held back puppies as potential show dogs. They decide to release them between 6 months to 2 years and charge less than a puppy. It takes work to find them, but they are out there. I know the process of searching is frustrating, but it is much less painful than having a poorly bred pup with costly health problems. Read through the many pages of the Sick & Injured forum to see what can go wrong. |
I don't know anything about this breeder, but I ran across her website the other day, Taylor Made Yorkies, in Maine. This is a Show Breeder, but she also offers puppies to pet homes. Her Yorkies are beautiful and I believe she has a couple of litters due in case you want to call her. Her number is on her blog. TaylorMadeYorkies.com Blog Taylor Made Yorkies for sale Good luck! |
The email in your first post sounds like another scam. Too many lose lots of money through these scams. |
I honestly think you need to stay off those ads that is definitely a con artist too. A real breeder does not do business like this. Are you willing to just buy any Yorkie for a specific price? Deal directly with breeders, there are many threads on here about how to go about this or start another one. I'm worried that you are setting yourself up for disaster, be careful. |

No that's fine and I'm sorry for sounding that way. I'm just frusterated. But yes I'm aware that yorkies are a costly puppy. I know that I can afford to own one but It's hard to just come up with $1000.00 to buy a pup. My husband just recently bought our home, I'm happy to finally be able to get a puppy. I'm just overwhelmed with how hard it is to find a puppy especially in my area from what I have found there are only 2 breeders in Maine that are registered...Neither of which have puppies or have puppies in my price range. I have even tried emailing a few people trying to work something out with them so I could get a pup and these people couldn't even respond to my emails. Again I"M very sorry for coming off the way I did. |
Oh, I'm so sorry, I posted the info on Taylor Made Yorkies before I saw your post with a price range. I'm not sure about them, but you could check just to be sure.:) |
Yes I have looked at her website but her pups start off at $1500.00 if I remember correctly. She has Beautiful pups without a doubt but again Not in my price range:( |
I'd have to say I agree with you! Took a while for me to figure it out but by golly it finally sank in...;) |

Like I said, I've been there....I'm still putting my two through college, so I'm still there :( But I don't like settling for things, so I save/budget for what I want. So if you want a yorkie...let's assume you have $500 for it right now. So, put a $100 away every month for the next 5 months (or $50 away for the next 10 months) & then get one. |
I just recently got my first yorkie. For some reason they are very popular here in Missouri. There is a local pet store here in my town and about 4 women (all family) own it. They have been breeders of yorkies and shih-tzus for many many years now. I have always seen yorkies and shih-tzus at the shop here and there. Just last week one of the women had a little yorkie (he's part of our family now), and she was selling him for $399. She said the only reason she had him is because a woman had wanted him, but decided on a poodle instead. And she told me that the only reason she was selling him for $399 was because he was 2lbs. at 8 weeks and was going to be a larger yorkie (around 7-10 lbs.). The ones that are going to be smaller when they are older (around 4 lbs.) she sells for at least $1,000. I couldn't believe that. But that is kind of the demand for yorkies. The smaller the better. Personally I wanted a little bigger yorkie. I would be scared of something that small, especially with 3 kids. They also have a guaranty on there dogs and they are registered and she had him up to date on his shots and worming and the vet said he was doing great. :) I wish you luck in finding your yorkie. |
It is very frustrating trying to find a pup....if you need to take a step back, then do so...don't give up, the right one wil show up, when you least expect it. |
