Yappy yorkies true or false What do you guys think are yorkies really overly yappy .:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
I can only speak from the experience of a single yorkie home. Bentley is not yappy unless given a reason. Yes he will bark at the cat when he tries to play with her. But then don't all dogs. :D I can't even get him to speak at a command. I tell him speak and bark at him and he just cocks his head to the side and huh, are you crazy? |
My two are awful yappers its my fault I let them get away with murder. |
My boys are quiet in the house unless the doorbell rings, and sometimes the phone. In the car, they are very yappy. They definitely encourage each other. If I had only one, I don't think they would yappy at all. |

Two maybe the key as well. Just like kids....one gets to whining and the other one chimes in and it just escalates from there. And also there is the I can be louder than you game too. I would think multi dog members will probably reply more true than false. |
Cooper is not yappy at all, but he's only 5 months old so that might change. Right now he only barks when he poops on the potty pad. He wants to make sure he gets his treat! |
My little boy is yappy if the doorbell rings, even if the doorbell is on TV. Or if someone startles him. Or if he's playing. Or the wind blows. So, yeah. hahaha. Can't speak for all of them, but this is how mine is. =) |
Mandie is not a yapper at all. Now, if someone or something is outside and I have her out in the back yard, she will go to the fence and bark. It is very hard to get her to stop once she starts. I wouldn't classify her as yappy, though |

Roxy isn't yappy inside or out. She does bark and growls a little when she thinks she hears something on the front porch.Really the only time she yaps at me is when she knows I'm stirring something special into her kibble and she really wants me to hurry...lol. |
They are naturally watchdogs and if they see anyone walking past what they see as there territory my two go bongers and start that high pitch barking setting both of them off together the little cuties. |
My boy is not yappy whatsoever. In fact, he's pretty much a snob. My girl (Yorkie/Maltese mix) is yappy enough for both of them. |
Mine never barks and if she does its because something is normally wrong. My moms Yorkie barks some but not a whole lot and its not really yippie sounding. I get kinda upset with this statement because not all Yorkies are like that and they can be trained not to. |
My Ginger was pretty yappy.. ;) Louie's only 13 weeks old so I don't know about him yet. lol Genea |

Well they never met Spencer  Genea |
I think it just depends on the personalities. Joel is super quite unless you specifically tell him to be loud, then he will. There could be someone outside stealing the car and he won't make a sound and just watch from the window haha! |
Minnie rarely barks. She is only 4 months but only barks randomly. If someone rings the doorbell or knocks she just runs to the door and scratches on it to get me to open it sooner but I also try not to make a big deal about it. She mostly barks when she tries to get attention and all other attempts have not worked. |
Mine arent yappy they bark if they need to about something but the vast majority of the day they are quiet |
Clyde is the biggest yapper in the world. HE LOVES TO TALK!! It took me a couple of months to teach him the command "quiet". Seriously, Clyde is so yappy if you let him be. I try to keep it to a minimum, though. Dexter on the other hand is so quiet. He will make little huffing sounds. Like he is trying to talk to you. But only sometimes. He only barks if he thinks there is an intruder at the door or something. I think it really depends on the dog :) But I have noticed in my area the terriers like to talk. |
Ella is the quietest dog ever! When I first got her, for a while I thought she didn't know how to bark.. that was until she saw a cat run across the backyard and she found her voice. But overall she's very quiet and only barks if the doorbell rings or a cat/bird/squirrel is in the backyard. My maltese Lily on the other hand is the barker of the pack! |
Sam begs for playtime by barking. He'll get up on the back of the couch, right by my ear, and let me know in no uncertain terms that he needs attention. The only thing close to an aggressive bark has been at my neighbor across the street. He really doesn't seem to like her. I'm trying to teach him that barking at people is unacceptable by redirecting him to another area, but when she is out, he will go nuts. |
I wouldn't call Jackson 'yappy'. He doesn't just bark to hear himself bark, LOL. And he's a perfect gentleman in public places. But he has a very shrill high pitched bark that he does whenever the doorbell rings, or the UPS comes up our driveway. He's an 'alerter' for sure. He's also very loud during play (i.e. he consistently barks when he and my dads dog, Lilly, are chasing the ball around in the back yard, he barks at me when I'm about to throw a ball, etc) so he is a huge talker and it can be very annoying. We're working on it. |
My Bella only barks during rough play, or at the cat, or for a minute after she is confined to her crate. She is definitely not yappy. :aimeeyork |
Yeah, I think there is a difference here between barking and yapping. My big boy, Shelby, barks a heck of a lot more than Mandie. |
Remy barks! She barks if a frog farts 10 miles away:eek: She barks to play... oh and does she ever :( She gets so excited when I come home she yodles.. sounds like I am killing her... my sweet little girls wants to get to me fast! lol |
Most all dogs are barkers but it's their job (so they think) to keep their home and family safe from all the bad guys. :dogsm6: However, the little dogs bark about three or four times to a large dogs two barks, so sadly they are called yappers. Mine will bark anytime they hear the UPS truck, a knock or door bell (even if it's on TV) but that's about it. When you get more than one barking at the same time, it's enough to keep those bad guys a bay though, so for that reason only, I hope they never stop "yapping"! :dogsm2: |
I cured me "wannabe yapper" with a water bottle and a handful of dried beans :D:D:D |
Blazer barks at anything he finds suspicious. Doorbell, other dogs, and strangers. Sometimes something on tv, but not often. My neighbors' dogs, however- a Yorkie and a Shorkie- are TERRIBLE yappers! Every time they are let outside they go out barking! I really think that it is a controlable habit- I'm still working on it. =) |
Neither of mine are yappy at all. Sabre will bark in if someone comes in the door and they don't sound like they belong, but it's more an alert bark, and then he stops. Pixie never barks unless it's on command. The one that is TRYING to be yappy is the papillon. The last couple weeks she has decided that she wants to bark at people, even when she knows who they are. We're working on that, lol. |
I have 3 NON yappers and one that I just say is...VERY VOCAL! lol ....er um..Bevo! |
