Which Snoozer Car Seat?
 

My husband got a new car this weekend and we plan on taking the pups in it a lot. I would like to get a new seat so we have one for each car.

I have been looking at the Snoozer seats... I need one for two pets, so it's between the:

I have heard that the Snoozer attaches the tethers to the seatbelt. Is this true? I feel like the tethers on my Pet Gear seat are not strong enough because they are just sewn onto the fabric of the seat. I want something that is safer.

Anyone have experience with these seats?

i bought mine that looks like the first one you have on dogcarseats.com and its was only 60.00. Its very plush and she loves looking out the window once she stops shaking that shes in the car..

Yes, the straps are clipped onto the actual car seat belt. VERY sturdy. :)

How much do your kiddos weigh? We have a medium in my car and both kiddos are fine in that. Zeus is 6.5# and Thalia is just under 3# but is expected about the same weight. I don't anticipate on getting the large. :)

I have the second carseat, the luxury lookout, and I love it. It attaches easily using the seat belt, and it has a tether that attaches to Katie's Buddy Belt. I got the medium size for two dogs in the future, and it's very roomy for Katie to lay down in it. I love having the drawer for an extra harness, brush, comb, and Katie's balls. The ultrasuede is beautiful and very plush.

I have the top one and Amy loves it. I like it cause it has the tether to attach to her harness. I feel safer that way in case of having to stop suddenly. Mine is for only one dog.

Just this morning I ordered (2) Snoozer Lookouts in small. I felt both of mine needed their own space. I was going back and forth between putting them in one seat or each in their own seat. I'm anxious to see what you end up with.

Callie had the regular one and then for her last birthday I upgraded her to the luxury one and I think we both love it more! It's softer and the pillow in it puts them up a little higher and is more comfy so I vote for the luxury one. The thing that hooks to there harness does go on the seat belt.

I have a Pet Gear & a Snoozer. I agree with you about the Pet Gear strap not being as secure, so I adapted mine and it actually goes goes though the seat and secures around the actual car seat belt.

The snoozer I have is like the first link you provided, with the cream sherpa stuff. The Pet Gear fabric is like the second link luxury lookout. The sherpa snoozer looks really crappy after a year, while the Pet Gear still looks like new, so if I were chosing I'd definately go with the luxury lookout in the second link.

I notice both the links you provided show the kind with the drawer underneath. I really like the drawer feature for storage of leash, water bottle, snacks, etc.

I love the snoozer seats. I wanted to point something out. I used to have the Snoozer console seat for 8 years for Columbo and recently got a new car. The console seat didn't fit this car, so I wanted a new car seat. The Snoozer console seat had about an inch thick foam on the bottom. On long trips, although he never complained, I used to think it probably wasn't that comfortable with only an inch padding on top of the hard console. So when I went to the pet store to look at the Snoozer Lookout seats for my new car, I immediately became aware that the regular Snoozer Lookout had a VERY thick foam cushion bottom and the Lookout II was much harder because it only has about an inch of foam on top of the hard plastic drawer in the bottom. The Lookout was much softer than the Lookout II. I got the regular Lookout because of that. When we are on long trips, I always take a separate bag for Columbo's things anyway and if I had the drawer and put his things in it, I would still need the separate bag to take in to where ever we were staying out of town. Around town, I don't take extras. I would recommend the regular Lookout for comfort. I did not get to see the Luxury Lookout in person, so if you definitely want the drawer, the Luxury looks like it has an extra pillow and would be more comfortable. Another thing to think about, though, is does your dog stand up much? When we are driving in our neighborhood, Columbo likes to stand up and look out at the neighborhood dogs. He also stands up whenever he gets excited about anything or if we are in stop and go traffic to see what's going on. The Lookout sides are deeper than the console seat we used to have and it looks deeper than the Luxury when the pillow is in. If the sides are a bit higher, it helps in stop and go traffic to keep him from falling if he is standing when I hit the brakes (yes, he wears his tether). In his console seat with lower sides, I had to watch him if he was standing in stop and go traffic and I would think the pillow of the Luxury would raise him up when he is standing. I love the regular Snoozer Lookout.

I had the Snoozer console sherpa for 8 years and I laundered it whenever it got dirty. It always washed up beautifully and looked like new. It still looks great, it just doesn't fit my new car. I will wash my new Lookout if it ever needs it.

Hmmm...I don't remember exactly how long I've had the snoozer, but I'm guessing about a year & a half, and it's been washed 4 times....and the sherpa seat part looks very worn, especially the middle part where ZoE digs & "makes a bed" to sleep in.

I love how we all want new doggie car seats when we get a new car :D. I had a black mustang with grey interior and so bought the grey Pet Gear, and liked how it coordinated with my car's interior. About 3 weeks ago, I sold my stang and bought a black caddy with black leather interior, so I think I need a new carseat that coordinates better, my only concern is whether the black fabric would be hotter in summer than the grey I have right now?

With the pillow, the luxury Snoozer is very plush, but as the photo I attached earlier shows, it raises them very high. The tether that comes with it is probably fine, but I am considering getting the Choke Free PawRider Seatbelt to use with Katie's Snoozer. Katie came so beautifully trained when I got her from our breeder, and she is an angel in the car. She always lays down quietly in her seat, so I don't worry about it being too high for her. It also gives them a great view without standing. I guess it really depends on what is best for your dogs.

Things seem to stick to the fleece in that first one you have listed. I like the 2nd one. :)

I should have clarified that the tether that clips around the SEATBELT is plastic. The Pawrider is an extremely strong Velcro and loop system that is virtually infallible. I highly recommend using the Pawrider system with whichever carseat you choose.

This is why I am thinking about getting this to use with my Snoozer. The seat is definitely secure with the seatbelt, but using this instead of the tether in the Snoozer would remove all doubt about safety.

That is exactly what I do. I have a coupler also so I can attach both pups to the Pawrider while in their carseat :thumbup:

I highly recommend it. I even have difficulty undoing the Velcro to move to a different location. It's THAT strong!

We have the Snoozer lookout II in medium and P-Nut loves it!!! He loves - and insists on - going for rides. I put a small baby blanket in it so he can "dig" that and the sherpa stays clean and nice. He's 10.5lbs and the medium is just fine. The tether is ok, but think it could be better made.

Thanks for all the information ladies! I'm definitely going with the luxury, but don't think I need the large... My pups are 7 and 6 pounds, so according to the site... a small should work, but it seems like it would be TOO small. I'm undecided on size...

I think there is one between small and Large isn't there? I would think to big would be better then to small :)

I bought the snoozer ( with travel drawer) for Charlie and he loved it - the problem was when I washed it I ruined it - it totally lost its shape and never went back on correctly. And it was fuzzy looking.
I fought with it trying to reshape it and get it to fit again and in the end I gave up and gave it away. :-( I was disappointed - it was expensive enough that I won't be replacing it.
Still makes me kinda sad - wish I had not washed it!!

We have a Snoozer too. Ours is the smaller one since I only have KS. She loves it and it has been a lifesaver! The tether seems super sturdy to me, never had a problem. My only 2 complaints: one, we got ours in the pink vinyl fabric. I thought it would be easier to wipe down. Although it is, I did put it in the wash one time and the vinyl cracked in a few places. Second, the foam underneath, on the sides, could be a bit stronger. KS is only 4.8 pounds and she loves to prop up on one side. Ours is already sort of bending and showing its wear after only a year. But I would buy it again if I had to, but I'd change the outer part to something besides the vinyl.

I've had the My Buddy for about 3 years now, and it's great :) Snoozer Black My Buddy Lookout at PETCO My boys are 12 and 6lbs, and both have plenty of room to stretch out. We do take long trips, so I wanted a seat on the bigger side.

Get the medium?

I had a medium Pet Gear for ZoE & it was the perfect size for her. Then when I ordered the Snoozer, I got the medium too, figuring it was the same size, but it's actually bigger. Two small dogs could easily fit comfortably in my medium snoozer.

I agree, go for a medium. There is PLENTY of room in ours for both kids. Zeus is 6.5 and Thalia may be up the same when she's fully grown.

I have the medium. Our poodle who usually is around 7lbs is 9lbs at the moment(must be the extra puppy food he has been sneaking... Don't judge me). lol and Crimson our yorkie is 4lbs fits in it good together. They even lay in it with room. I had to order an extra strap which was around 8 bucks from the website with free shipping. IMO, I would go with the second photo choice because I don't just love the Sherpa part but usually keep a little baby blanket to keep it clean and from the dogs digging it up.

I think the small might be too small for 6 & 7 lb pup. It is nice to have room to lay down as well as sit up. These seats are pretty big though due to the padded comfort, LOL!

It sounds like we are going to go with the medium. My hubby likes the idea of the microfiber over the sherpa. I wanted the cheetah, but he vetoed that :p Ah well, maybe the next seat for my car will have to be cheetah!

Lisa, did you replace the tethers too? I like the idea of the Paw Rider, but if I continue to use the same tethers, I don't feel like it would be any more safe.
