Needing your help! Am I being overcharged? 1 Attachment(s) Hello everyone, I am very, very new here as I am planning on getting a Yorkie in the very near future. I found the perfect little gal from a breeder about an hour from my city. The ad I found was actually for puppies but I randomly asked if there were any older dogs available as I would like one around the age of 2-4. Coincidently I was told they happened to have one 3 year old Yorkie that just had the puppies in her ad! I was blown away by the adorable pictures and stories. She told me a bunch of wonderful things; about how good, quite, social, loving, etc. she is. I'm very interested in her and want her as soon as I can (I feel like a kid waiting for christmas), but here is my dilemma: how much should this person be asking for a 3 year old, unfixed, 7 lbs Yorkie in apparently good health (I'll attach a photo)? She is not registered and also needs to be fixed (on contract with this breeder). How much roughly would any of you be charging me for a Yorkie like this. I am just afraid that this person may just be more intersted in making money than giving her dog a wonderful loving home like mine. Please help! P.S. So very glad to be joining such a wonderful group of people on this forum. |
How much is she charging you. She is a rehome so her price should be less than a puppy also you have the cost of getting her spayed but you would have that if you were buying a pup also. Is she potty trained? |

Well, when I first inquired about the cost she said $950. I then said that my absolute limit was $800 (which it was if I were buying a puppy). I have somewhat gone with the $800 price for now as I can't even pick her up till May when her puppies are homed. |
She is potty trained to go outside. Well, when I first inquired about the cost she said $950. I then said that my absolute limit was $800 (which it was if I were buying a puppy). She automatically said that she could settle for $800. I have somewhat gone with the this $800 price for now as I won't even be able to pick her up till May when her puppies are homed. I have put down a $300 deposit and am driving the hour or so on Wednesday to go see her. Is this risky??? I'm so new to this ... |

Good luck!! |
That is really high price for a older Yorkie. I would see if you can negotiate a reasonable price you both can agree upon. A friend of mine, recently adopted a Yorkie that was 5 months of age and the asking price was $400 from the kijiji site and the pup was in good health also, super cute. The owners were moving out the country and was the main reason of looking for a new home. Perhaps, you can take a look on the site kijiji.ca Good luck! |

Do you think if I waved cash in her face she would take an offer? The only thing is I'm nervous she'll tell me to hit the road and then not even sell her to me for the $800. I'm really serious about the dog, just not so much about the price. I just want it to be a fair price as I'm in University and that s**t aint cheap! lol |

What in your opinion is an average price for a rehome? Do you think if I waved cash in her face she would take an offer? I think 4 to 500 is a good price for a rehome. |

I think you should take your time and find a rep breeder, make sure your pup is healthy:-) I think 800.00 is a bit much for an adult yorkie. How many times has she breed her? I would have a lot of questions for this breeder. I also noticed you mentioned that you attend a university, animals are like children they require a lot of dedication, time, attention and love. |
Thanks everyone. I did offer her $450 to start off with and that's when she told me she was looking for $950. This is her second litter. 1 pup in the first and 4 in this one she just had. I have spoke with the women on the phone and she sounds lovely and caring. I guess I will find out Also yes, I'm at school 4 hours a day on monday, wednesday, and friday. I'm home usually other than that. |
I just can't imagine keeping my baby girl 3 years...letting her have 2 sets of babies, and then the first stranger that says hey do you have an adult for sale, sell her.... Anyways... Wow.... On that note... Maybe you can give this girl the loving life she deserves! Welcome to Yt! |
