Need INFO ASAP re: purchase of puppy Hi. I'm new to the yorkie breed and I'm currently looking a puppy to purchase from what seems to be a reputable breeder, however, I have questions regarding the color of these pups. These pups are mostly black with a little tan on their eye brows and around the mouth. However, the SIR is completely white, (I think they call that blue perhaps) And the Dam is more black and beige. I was looking at pictures of this breeders past pups/customers and all seem extremely happy with their pups, but I was noticing that a lot of these pups are turning white as they get older. Is this okay? Is this a sign of a good AKC Yorkie? I'm going to be spending quite a bit of money on this pup, less than 1K but not much less. Thank you in advance to any body that can help me. I need to make a decision pretty quickly. |
I responded to your other thread but will bump this as well. A Blue Yorkie is not usually considered a healthy pup. They frequently come with alot of health problems and and should NOT be used for breeding. |
Turning white..? Hmm that doesn't seem right. Is there anyway that u can post pics of the parents, that would help a lot. I would definitely do my research too before spending that kind of money. |
I agree, you need to RUN FAST AWAY from this breeder. It is quite clear that this is an unethical BYB & should NOT be breeding this dog. |
What's SIR? It sounds like you're describing parti yorkies...why would a blue born have any white, are they not all blue? Askin bc I really don't know loll. |
Oh ok, SIRE...he's all white? Like a Maltese? |
yes, the Sire, he's white looking, or it could pass as silver I guess. It's not really white like a maltese but it's a whitish/silver color. I mean Sire, not sir. I'm new to this site and when I first posted my thread, it didn't show up so I posted another one thinking I didn't do something correctly. Only to find out it has to be approved by a moderator first. |
Not SIR,,,but Sire the father dog. Blue Born is not a blue dog. Yorkie puppys are black usually when born, a blue born is a blue black and will turn white instead of black n tan or grey n tan. The blueborn reminds me of an albino. It is not a stable gene pool, usually has alot of health problems, sometimes has a shorter life expectance because it usually has a supressed immune system and therefore is subject to getting ill easier. Some breeders will try to make you think that these are SPECIAL/RARE puppys when in truth they are not from a strong gene pool. They should never be used for breeding. |
Is it possible to post a pic of the sire or a website or something. We can all guess as to what you are referring to with the Sires coloring. If he is just lacking pigment then he could be passing it on to his progeny. Or this could be a breeder that isn't on the up and up. But without pics we can all just offer our opinions on what it could be. |
We have a member here who had a blue born yorkie and he turned white as he got older. Blues should never ever be breed neither should the parents that made the blue. Blues as a rule are not healthy and can die very very young. |

This must be a very bad greeder breeder, OP please reconsider purchasing from this breeder...def NOT a responsible, respected, reputable breeder. |
I will try and post a pic of the SIRE. I'm new to this site but I'll give it a try. |
As far as your question about color, the pup will usually change colors as it matures. If Mom stayed black, then so may the pup, but usually will turn blue. It's not a Standard color that we can Show, but used in Breeding at times to get color back into the pups. The Sire's color if blue may look white because he just got lighter with age or he just didn't have that nice dark steel blue color. In breeding, the dark steel blue color is preferred, but can be easily lost in lines. As far as responsible breeder, you will have to do your homework, check her out, ask for references, google her name etc. But the color of parents is not usually a big health concern the way I see it at least without pics of the Sire. Born blue can have a skin condition that looks like elephant skin too. I've seen a lady's born blue once, and his color was almost like a light chocolate. |
2 Attachment(s) When you say white do you mean light grey? Laddy is lighter gray on his back. Kyra had very little gold as a pup but we think she is beautiful now. I will post some pictures for you of Laddy now and Kyra as a pup. As Deb said, Kyra's mom was dark and Kyra has remained dark also. |
