Awww, my feelings are so hurt. He is SO mad at me right now lol. He is not even wagging his tail when I come up to him and he doesn't want me to pet him. He won't even come lay on my bed with me. :(

I know it's the anesthesia and all, it is breaking my heart tho. I am feeling so guilty right now! I'm contemplating canceling his Wed. morning mobile grooming appt because it takes so long to re-gain his trust back from things like this, and if we wake up another morning and he's shoved into a grooming van, I swear, he will ignore me for a week, LOL... I know it sounds ridiculous, but he is so ridiculously smart, and doesn't forget anything... Eeekkk, he needs a hair cut tho. ha.

Anyway here are pics. The before is hard to see but the canines were very green (such an odd color, but vet said it was in fact tarter/plaque) and tops were yellowing and forming thick plaque. The back teeth weren't too bad at all. Oh and his bottom canine on that side is shaved down, if you're wondering why lol. He has an overbite so 2 years ago went under to get it shaved down so it could no longer reach the roof of his mouth, where it causing a hole.

Jackson came out of anesthesia good! I can pick him up at 12:30. They did say he had gingivitis and stuff and his gums bled a lot. So she said it was good I did now as a preventative measure before it got worse. But they werent terrible. no teeth needed pulled or anything.

Whew! It is also such a relief to know they woke up! I know you feel so much better now and so glad no teeth needed pulling! That is big to me that he didn't. Now you can let him sleep it off and spend the week spoiling him rotten and giving him a whirl of fun. Good, good news!

lovespandp 04-15-2013 09:41 AM

Awww poor wittle Jackson!! He will be ok Brit, just let him do what he wants. Hopefully in a couple hours he will be over it and willing to snuggle!!

Ohhhhh, looks like you got him in just in time and they did a really good job. I'd watch those dark spots on those 3 teeth - the canine and two just mesial(isn't that the term they use?) to it. Good for you for getting him in when you did. Now just keep up a good dental hygiene program and keep it up and all is good.

TxVicki 04-15-2013 09:55 AM

Yeah glad that he doing well and is home with you now.

Maximo 04-15-2013 09:57 AM

I am very happy to hear that Jackson is home, and I agree with you, cancel that grooming appointment. Wait a week.

He is probably just woozy from the anesthesia. After Max had his eye surgery, he didn't even recognize me.

Wishing Jackson and his pretty teeth a peaceful evening of rest. Glad the big day is over.

MandiesMom 04-15-2013 09:58 AM

Well, his teeth look great now. Good job on getting him in! Sorry...I didn't get on last night so just seeing this. Mandie had her dental last week and I sure would've offered some moral support :)

I can google (and will) but what is OraVet?

Very happy Jackson didn't need any teeth pulled!

I *think* I commented on Mandie's thread, so glad to hear it went well for her too.

Oravet is this stuff like a plaque-barrier and they put on the first application when under so the teeth can be completely dried, for best results. Then in 2 weeks, I brought some home with me, and you'll apply it once a week yourself. If you google, their site explains a lot :) I think it will really help!

The vet also sent me home with samples of Wysong Dentatreat and it's like a powder you put over their food. They also gave us a sample of Oxyfresh for their water but I am going to look into this before using, I tend to recall it being made in China, or having some controversial ingredient? so I probably won't use it.

Of course brushing in between too. Every day, but no less than every other day they said or it's pointless to do.

Did the vet send you home with anything for Mandie?

LOL, I know right. And gosh they lay on the guilt trip!

I think I am going to cancel that grooming appt. lol

107barney 04-15-2013 10:06 AM

Wow! His teeth certainly did need a cleaning. They look just beautiful now!

Hmmm, if Mandie's teeth continue to build tarter the way they did this past year, I will ask my vet about this stuff. No, they didn't send anything home with her. I brush her teeth (not every day but at least every other day). The only ones that had the build up were a couple of the molars in the top back. But, that's with her not even having those teeth a whole year since she just turned a year lol. I'm thinking she's going to have teeth issues so I want to be well informed and prepared for the future.

rubymoon2072 04-15-2013 10:14 AM

so glad hes home and safe. his teeth look really good. he will forgive you a lil bit. it took two days for cedric to forgive me for his grooming!

Wow I didn't realize this bottom canine had to be shaved down THAT much. That must have been really uncomfortable to say the least!

Glad he did well.

ETA I really do need to bring Uni in. Better now than later, I don't want them to have to pull any teeth.

OMG this is horrible. My own dog is terrified of me. I do our usual nightly routine- grab a treat, come in my room, lay on my bed. He's absolutely terrified. Tail down, running away from me... wont come into my room. No matter what treat.

I feel like a horrible horrible dog mom right now. He's NEVER done this before. He's completely untrusting of me right now.

It will pass I promise. This will all be a distant memory. Georgie has had a few surgeries and acted the same way and then after a few days I guess he decided to stop holding a grudge and be our sweet boy again. Don't feel bad Brit you did the right thing in getting his teeth cleaned.

Thinking of you and Jackson today! 😊

Wylie's Mom 04-16-2013 08:07 AM

I missed this thread on the 14th, but just wanted to say I hope Jackson is doing okay...and his Momma too !

capt_noonie 04-16-2013 09:43 AM

How is Jackson doing today?

joyce evans 04-16-2013 10:43 AM

Hope all went well with Jackson! Not looking forward to dental with mine and also not sure how I would be able to clean her teeth right now as she holds still for nothing! She just turned 4 mos. on 4/6/13. Should I start brushing now?

capt_noonie 04-16-2013 10:55 AM

Start as early as you can! I've found CET toothpaste works best. You can buy a sample pack from Amazon and it comes with the tiniest fingertip toothbrush.
Amazon.com: CET Mini Toothbrush with Poultry...Amazon.com: CET Mini Toothbrush with Poultry...
I've also found that the chicken flavor is easiest to give. Mine don't like mint flavor.

Britster 04-16-2013 12:28 PM

Def start as early as you can! I wish I would've with Jax...

He's doing much better today! But gosh this dog holds a grudge. He slept under my bed ALL night... I was so lonely without him, LOL. Then this AM he was hesitant to let me put his harness and leash on to take him out for morning potty (cuz that's what I did before dental, let him potty, then put him in the car) ... once we came inside, and he saw me lay back in the bed, he hopped on there w/ me and cuddled a bit, hahaha.

But today he's fine!!! Seems back to normal. Whew :) I don't like when my boy is mad at me!

LOL That is too many things. Sounds like he needs to be part of the dramatic drama king club with Peanut!

yorkietalkjilly 04-16-2013 12:31 PM

Go glad you are back in your boy's good graces and all that is behind him! :)

MandiesMom 04-16-2013 12:32 PM

Happy to hear that Jackson is back to his old self. They really know how to torment us, huh? Stinkers that they are! lol
