I'm not sure when the BEST age is to add another to the mix. But, my oldest was 8 months old when we got another who was 14 weeks. Yoshi was potty trained & established in our home when we got a second. We didn't do that on purpose. It just sort of turned out that way. Yoshi was old enough to sort of guide Momo along & teach her the rules of the house. Now, they make a great little pair. They're close enough in age to enjoy the same types of activities & grow up together. We're adding a 3rd next month. Crossing my fingers that works out okay. |
First, it is best that the first one is pretty well potty trained! We have one that is 6 yrs. one that is 9 months and one is 4 months. We brought Tatiana home when Teeka was 8 months. Teeka is potty trained for the most part. These 2 have got along great from day one! Teeka really needed a playmate and I wanted them to grow up together. It is funny, now that Max would never play with Teeka before we brought Tatiana home. Now Max has decided to join there games of chase! He gets just as excited as they do, especially in the evenings. :) |
Thank you for the comments, the breeder I got riley from has just told me she is expecting more in five weeks!......( the same mum as Riley) it's thinking time for me! |
There are not set rules to adopting another dog. It all depends on you. Are "you" ready! Do "you" have the time, patience and most of all the finance. They can be very expensive. The other dog/dogs will get use to a new dog. No set time there either because it's at their own pace. Just think it through very carefully before you adopt. ;) |
ThAnks for the advice, it's definitely something I have to think about. Luckily me and my partner have very good jobs and the money wouldn't be a problem (we don't have children). We both work full time and I have always wanted two, And I think it would be good for riley, there is alot to think about. |
aww, it's really good if you can get a brother or sister, with same mammy, thats sweet... just my opinon I would say its meant to be |

A good one is hard to find. It will be good company my sister took a boy and girl from Molly's litter and they get on great as she and hubby out at work. I'm sure you will be able to cope its not too bad walking two and you can get couplers that make it easier too. Riley is still really young so a new pup should be ok, it Merlin a little while to accept Molly but they have a 6 year age gap, when Milo came along a year after Molly they were both fine. They all have naughty moments, Im sure they think that part of the fun lol x |
My advice too ! Quote:

Thinking of what? New beds? Clothes? Harnesses and leads? Food? Planning the old vacation so you can spend time with the 'kids' and get them used to each other leisurely? :p:D It kind of looks...to me...like your question has answered itself! ;) |
