Others say (and I believe) that the research really doesn't prove it is any healthier and that it is actually good to wait until after the first heat - let their bones finish growing and such.
As I said, I have always spayed before the first heat and at 6 months. Waiting until 8 months will probably put you in the position of dealing with the pup's first heat. However, I think it is worth it to give her more time to grow, add weight, and see if any baby teeth need to be pulled. If I knew then what I know now, I would have let Mandie go thru that first heat and spayed her at 8 or 9 months old. |
