What a cutie patootie your little baby is! Welcome to YT, btw. I just wanted to add a little something to the mix ... I recently saw the cutest little baby Yorkie that also had a round tummy and it turned out to be a bloated stomach due to intestinal worms (gastric dilation-volvulus) (GDV). The little tellitubbie had a hard time walking too and it was because of the pain in its tummy. :( The Vet had told the woman that even though the breeder said it had wormed the baby, that didn't mean anything unless they had the right meds, which they obviously did not. Anyway, just wanted to share that with you in case it might apply. Love the photos of your little one, thanks for sharing! :) |
Im curious... you said he was AKC registered, but not purebred? How can that be? He sure is a SUPER cutie and he does look all Yorkie to me. I couldn't even guess what he could be mixed with. I love the name Monkey! You can still take him lots of places, just get a leash and harness. He'll just be your walker instead of your carry on! :) I have a little boy and a bigger boy. I still take them together as much as possible and I usually end up carrying the little one and the bigger one walks on a leash. It works though because my little one is timid and my big boy wants to inspect everything! That's probably my fault though, I always carried my little boy and walked my big boy! Anyways, super cute, and you'll love a bigger boy, they are rough and tumble, rugged and FUN!!! Yet still small enough to curl up on mama for a nap! :) Oh and the not walking to his water dish, he could be nervous about flooring changes... until he gets used to it. Some pups are more timid and nervous to try new things at first. He'll get used to it! |
It is true that there are a variety of intestinal worms and some of them need different medications than others to get rid of them. He really needs a good vet to do a very good exam on him. |
He is just as cute as can be! :) |
Aw, he is adorable!! He looks all yorkie to me, just an over standard size which isn't uncommon. My last litter of yorkies, I had one like him. His two sisters ended up being 4lbs, his parents were 3 and 5lbs as were the grandparents but he ended up being over 10lbs, just a throwback from earlier generations. He does look a little chubby but unless it is causing him problems I wouldn't worry about it as a lot of puppies are chubby. I love the chubby ones!! Quote:
Worms however are an easy fix with deworming meds. Most puppies do have worms and should be dewormed several times to make sure you got them all. A puppy that has tons of worms is easy to spot as well because they will have large round tummys but the rest of their body will be slim. A puppy that has a large tummy and is chubby all around doesn't mean it has worms. |

The puppy's brothers and sister are the same size as him, sister is smaller, parent was on site. I just think that the breeder may have lied on paper and to me when he was born cause vet doesn't think he is 12 weeks. |
he's so adorable. best of luck with him. :animal-pa |
