if you could have a clothes closet for your yorkie?? So my bf said my idea of turning a used entertainment center into Ruby and Rosie's Closet and Accessory Grand Central Station was not a good idea for many reasons. He said that if I could draw him a picture or give him an idea he would build one for my birthday!!! :D. So my question is...if you had the perfect space/closet for your yorkies things what would it look like? For example I would like at least one drawer for storing their blankets. Does any one else have ideas they want to share? |
how about... I borrow your bf to make a closet for me:D:D What do you want, a free standing amour? Do you hang the clothes, need space for folded items, leashes etc. Do you want it to "match" your decor or be special? |
Im tying to figure out what he wants from me in return (other then to quit crabbing about how much stuff I have for the girls but can never find!!) Here's what I am thinking so far besides the drawer. I want it free standing so I can move it to a different room, different house etc. I think I am going to paint it white or cream- make it kind of Shabby Chic (Rosie's theme). I want a hanging space...one rod for Ruby's clothes and one for Rosie's. At the dollar store I had bought these plastic boxes that I intend to cover with shabby chic material, pinks sages stripes florals etc to match the bow organizer I made. I also have wooden bones I was going to use as labels for fabric boxes. I need ideas for labels too. For example, for the box I store their shoes in I think Im going to label it "Pawtectors" something like that. So obviously i will want some shelving to store the boxes but im not sure...should they be on the top bottom side etc? Leashes, collars...should I store them in a container on the shelves or...should I have hooks put on the doors so I can hang them?? Etc...other things I may not think of??? I just realize that R and R have so much stuff that I don't even know what they have and I want to organize it better. |
I think it's time to take inventory. When you have a list of everything you want to put into your "wardrobe", then you can figure out exactly how you want to categorize and organize. I love the idea of hanging leashes and the boxes you picked up at the Dollar Store are a great idea for things you don't want to hang up. What about ribbons and bows, do you want to include space for these things?? Oh my, the mind just goes in circles of all the things you could include. This sounds like a wonderful project and I'm a bit envious. LOL Right now I'm just trying to figure out where I can get hangers cheep. LOL Have fun and be sure to post pictures when it''s finished?? |
Hey Diane My birthday isn't until June so...im thinking if he does it I wont get until August! :) I made an organizer a few months back for bows ribbons bands etc. Im hoping the shelves will be high enough I can store the organizer inside the closet/armoire or that it wont be so tall I could set it on top. My plan is to have grooming supplies...shampoos conditioners sprays toothbrushes toothpaste nailcare ear care brushes and combs nail polishes toys caps leashes collars bows clothes blankets medicines halloween costumes etc: all in one spot...jive got at LEAST two totes here and three totes at my befriends of their stuff!!! |
That's awesome. Maybe google closets or doggy closets and click on images. I was lucky that when we moved I got two rooms one is like an office and it has a walk in closet I use for just Callie. I have a serious blanket obsession lol. |
Wow you are lucky. Can you send him over so he can build me a closet. ;) |
Ill let you guys know if I am lucky or not...it hasn't been made yet. Im still waiting on my raised vegetable garden beds! (He did say w them i had to move in first!! )My hope is if I I have very detailed plans he won't let me down:) |
Love Taylors idea. I would do some on line looking. I am sure you can find some good ideas. Pressed wood is what most entertainment units are made of, that is not solid enough to drill new holes, put drawer tracks, hanging rods etc. |
Well, I'm sure he "wants something in return", ya know, just to speed things up! :p :) The idea about the inventory is very good. Maybe if you brought together everything you intend for this closet or amoire in one place, you'll get a good idea of how much space you're gonna need + expansion room of course. It's always more than you think! :) On that note, Lexie's gonna need a wing to herself. :D |

I made a closet for Zeus and will be making another one for Thalia down the road. I LOVE the "bone windows" that some have, lol. TBH, there really are not a lot of dog closet varieties. I personally found more looking for doll closets and children's closets/armoires than dogs. Might not hurt to look at that variety. :) |

I thought about that but with the children armoire's are they big enough??? My thought is maybe find ideas that I like and let the bf figure out how to make them into one that is big enough! |

I have no doubt that some people would be able to get a doll/child's armoire but I haven't found one that can hold enough. ;) |
Mina's closet is a very old wardrobe. The left side is where clothes were hung,my DH put 3 rods spaced evenly apart. The right side has a "hat closet",this is a tiny shelf with a door, blankets go there. Below that are 5 drawers, one for pjs,one for all of the leashes and the other furkids clothes go in the others. This has worked really well for me. |

I think I would want a chest of at least 4 drawers with a section to one side with a door that opens into the area where you can hang some items and shelves underneath for blankets and and maybe even a couple of carriers. Kind of like a smaller sized arnoire. Canwood Armoire, Natural - Walmart.com |
1 Attachment(s) I used a slightly converted bookcase for ZoE's closet. Starting from the bottom... there are two baskets of pee pads, then a bar hanger for her clothes. The next two shelves are baskets for various things, bows in one, grooming supplies (nail clippers, trimmers, sciscors) in another, summer stuff (water bottles, cooling get mat, life vest) in yet another, etc. Then is my bedroom tv :p On the top shelf I have two big baskets. In one of them I put things that I've bought extra of....if there's a toy I bought that ZoE really likes, I'll buy a few extra and toss them up there. The other basket holds extra blankets. Between the two, I keep my purse/carriers...only one (Kwigy Bo putty) up there when I took this pic. On the outside, nearest my dressser, I have hooks that hold leashes & harnesses. I love having everything in one set place...makes things much easier to find. I do wish it had doors...stuff just gets extra dusty hanging around, and I'd really like it to have a drawer or two. But it coordinates with my bedroom furniture and fits in my very small living space, so it's working for now. Once all my other house projects are done (if ever ) I'd think about tackling a custom project too! |
Karan- Thank you soooooo much for the picture. Its given me a couple of ideas. A few questions for you: 1. Would you want doors for the whole piece or just over the hanging clothes area? 2. Do you know about how many items you are able to hang in that area? 3. Do you know about how wide and high your closet is? Thanks so much!!!! |
I have a doggie armoire that I love - it's so functional. I'm going to try to post pictures - I'm afraid my pics aren't that good - the doors open and have hooks for leashes and there are 2 drawers that are deep and hold a lot. If you like it and want more info please pm me - I think I ordered it from Frontgate but I just looked and its no longer listed there. |
My pictures are too large - I have to figure out how to make smaller....?? |
