Brushing My Yorkie Can anyone tell me "exactly" what kind of brush to use to brush my yorkie and where I can get it? |
flee brushes work well for me, Petsmart has them. Also I think something called a slicker brush, but Emma doesn't like it as much. |
Use a boar bristle brush, and your baby mats a lot get a pin brush without the ball tips and a slicker brush to help remove the mats. You can order all of these at JB pets online or at other pet supply stores. I believe Petsmart and Petco carry them also. |
I find that a slicker brush damages the hair too much on a daily basis. I used for a long time before getting a pin brush and i totaly got better results. So i strongly recomend a pin brush (without ball at the ends) and a metal comb, so you can check for any mats that were not combed out with the brush. Also, remember ever brush a dry or dirty coat! |
I looked at petsmart and jb and didn't find a boar bristle brush anywhere, what is that, or do you have a link? |
Okay a pin brush and a metal comb and only use on clean wet hair for brushing. And no little balls on the tip of the brush bristles, okay, I think I got it. Another question, after I bathe him and before I blow dry him, can I spray some of my spray on leave in condition on him and then brush and blow dry? |
I recomend neutral ph products or made specially for dogs. Dogs ph is different from ours so our products can be harsh on their skin and some dogs even get a allergic reaction to them. You can try just dilute them in water! and be carefull not to get in the eyes...:) |

:rolleyes: May I ask the difference between the pin brush with and without balls at the end? I was wondering why you recommend only the pin brush without balls at the end. Iask cause the brush I have being using is a pin brush but has balls at the end. I always spray a dog conditioner on Gucci's hair before I brush it. I think Guccis hair is the cottony type so her hair get tanlge easy. Her hair is short and Im planning to always have her in a puppy cut. She is 8 months today. :aimeeyork |
mmyorkies: can you get rid of mats using this kind of brush? It looks to me like a regular nylon brush like the ones i used on my own hair:D Maria: The balls at the end of the brush will hold the hair and break it, while the ones without balls will go in and out of the hair without breaking. |

haha...what won;t we do for these yorkies huh???? Just one thing, when using the pin brush without the ball on the tips, be careful on the skin contact...if you're brush too hard or too rough it will hurt and the puppy will cry (i know this cuz i tested on myself...hahahaha):( |
i use a flea comb on nala it works the best for me she has that "funky hair" :) ya know the kind you brush and brush and think wow she looks good then she rolls on her side and it sticks strait up!! lol :animal-sm |
Yep, my Beau has that kind of hair. His is soft, but it feels cottony, I sure hope it turns silky (more like human hair) as he gets older. |
thanks, I'll buy one of those. As for the posts about only brushing when the hair is wet...I didn't know that. is that very important or only when the hair is long? |
