Once you have one Yorkie you want more? My friend's sister breeds Yorkies and she has just recently moved to the area, bringing with her, her bitch and 6 week old pups. They are not ready to go for a long, long time but oh wow, I want them all so much. That puppy smell! But do I really want to go through toilet training again whilst we're only just getting Jarvis sorted? Will I always lust after a second (or more) Yorkie? How many of you started off with 'just one and no more' to end up with a pair or more? |
I started with one and now have three and trust me if my dh would allow me to have more i would!! |

Hehe, I'm picturing you standing in the middle of a field of little Yorkies.:D I'm so tempted by these pups but I don't think it would be fair on Jarvis just yet, not until we move out of a flat to a house then they could both have the freedom of a garden and not annoy our neighbours too much. |

Lol....you have the yorkie bug! We have 2, a male and female and I would love to get another female! I love the companionship that they give unconditionally 24/7! Hopefully in the near future, we will add another.....they are like chips....you can't have just one! |
Ohh how fun!! That would be a blast being around puppies, especially YORKIES! :aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork I guess I am the odd man out- I have just one little guy, Peanut- I have had him since he was 10 weeks. Peanut is 5 years, will be 6 in May. I’m 100% content with one. I love having just one. He gets all my love and attention- and I get all his love and attention!!! :D |
It is very tempting but the added cost I don't care for right now. |
I can't tell you how badly I want another one!! I just have to convince hubby that they aren't really THAT expensive. hehe He is in love with Mandie (she is a Daddy's Girl), but every time I talk about getting another one, he says, "We're still paying off this one." lol |
I sure want more than one! I'd love to have two if I could manage all of the training, intellectual stimulation, exercise, lap-time and me-time, grooming, vet trips and expenses that more than one would require. Be sure if you get more than one you can handle all of that and - sometimes - the fighting, because occasionally terriers just do fight, especially same-gender ones. And some strains of terriers fight more than others. I guess it's the Irish in them. haha. :D |
It's true what they say Yorkies are like potato chips you can never just have one. I started with one and then added another baby a year later I have 2 little girls and would love another but think about what yorkietalkjilly says and she is right. So two are good for me now, but who knows what the future holds ;) |
And sometimes if you have more than one, toys and favorite things become issues with your current Yorkie. How will you handle that? Read up on owning multiple terriers and how to deal with all of those issues and be ready so that you can get early control of any potential problems as they arise. That way the transition can be far less traumatic to your current Yorkie, if he's possessive or terribly spoiled(as mine is!). |
I have four and can't imagine life without them. The fun and joy they bring to my life is immeasurable. It is also wonderful to see the companionship they have with each other. However, everybody's situation is a little different, so you should weigh out all the different aspects of having more than one, especially the cost of veterinary care. In my case, I am home most of the time, have a big house and yard, and can provide for all the extra costs including vet care. Luckily they are healthy, but soon they will be due for their annual vet check up, and 2 will prob need dental, so that will be about $1,500. Grooming can be costly; last time I had all 4 done at once it was close to $300, so I groom them myself. Another thing to consider, if you love taking your dog with you everywhere, having 2 can be more challenging to take along. But, at least they have company when they are left at home. Be prepared for "double trouble" too, double potty accidents, and double barking. The reward is double kissies. They are addicting though, and the thought of Yorkie puppies is very tempting (even to me with 4). |
I am with you Deanna we have our little Georgie boy and he's enough LOL. 1 Yorkie and 1 human child that is all;) I do look at puppy pics often but Georgie will be 8 in June and we are all so content right now:D |
I'm pretty content with just Chloe. I have 2 human kids though. Plus we have a cat and 2 large dogs. Who know what the future holds? I can see myself with another down the road, or just keep Chloe to myself. lol |
No skin kids or other dogs for us so we are getting our second in April :) This WILL be the last! |
We started out with one but we knew when we got him we were also going to get a female. My Husband saw a couple with a pair of them and thought that was cute. So a month after we got Chachi we got Jewels from the same breeder. She was thrilled we got 2 and said they do beetter in pairs. Now I cant imagine having one without the other and I will always have pairs |
Bentley is only 14 weeks old and I am already dreaming of a sister for him. I am seriously thinking of contacting the breeder this late fall to see when she will have another litter of pups from his parents so he has a full sister. |
Started out with one ended up with 4 until Nikki passed away last year. Now I have 3. Pros: Having 3 times the love and they keep each other company when I am gone. Cons: It can be expensive and hard to take 3 out at a time. As I am getting older I will not add anymore. |

I am considering another yorkie to keep my 5 year old yorkie company. My question is ... do they enjoy anothers company? My boy clings to my side and I am wondering if they enjoy another dogs company? |
They are addicting!! I bought one, my girl Boccee, with plans of only having the one. I work at home so I have plenty of time to give her. but she just seemed, I dunno, lonely! So the very next weekend I bought my boy, Bronco!! It has been the best thing for her! They run thru the house and wrestle and even snuggle ;) that makes me so happy! I have only had them for a few weeks though, so time will really tell if my decision was best, but at this point we are all very happy we got a second! This Saturday Boccee will be 15weeks and Bronco will be 13 weeks. |
I started with one and I have 3 now. I would have more if I could. |
I agree. We have 5 animals but we do without a lot of things that are normal. I have the annuals set up where they are in different months. I have it set up where we buy only 1 bag of kibble every 2 weeks. And the list goes on. 2 little dogs are easy taking places... It is the big dog that is hard travel with. We have a pet sitter that comes in now when we are gone. |

That is Exactly How I Feel but also because of living in the City. Im on the 5 th floor of a condo building and Riley comes just about everywhere with me and if I got another it would be much more difficult to do that. If I lived in a house in the suburbs I would maybe have 2 to keep each other company. |
I have really thought about adding another yorkie..Foxy is 7, and I am not sure how she would feel about that though..she is so spoiled and I fear she would be super jealous! |
Lol . . . Once you have one :aimeeyork Yorkie you want more :aimeeyork and more :aimeeyork and just one more :aimeeyork and now we have four. We love them so much, they are all such a big part of our family ! We have a litter of 6 right now (Ruby's 6 pack) and if we had a bigger home we would definitely be keeping one. We spend lots of tender moments with each of them just letting them sleep on our chest and getting them use to our touch. It's going to be hard letting them go since during the socialization process we do get quit attacked to them. :( I wouldn't suggest getting another pup until you other is fully trained. One he is or if he is, he will be a great roll model for a new addition. |
We started with one and added a second - if we weren't renting our house and it was ours, I would add one more. I love my Yorkies so much! They are the lights of my life! We started with Jack and added Izzy. Jack was 3 years old when we got Izzy. They play well together. I do, however, agree with the others - weigh the pros and cons, costs, etc. We are lucky to be in a house with a fairly large yard. |
I started with one, Raelle....her breeder called and asked if we wanted her brother...yup you guessed it, Orion! Then I decided I wanted a Biewer, so a year later Jersey joined the pack...love them all to pieces. I always take one with me where ever I go and the two left at home keep each other company! If fiancé would let me I would get another! You know to make it a nice even number...lol! |
