I have Petplan for Amy. Although she is only 6 months old I feel better knowing she has insurance. My last dog was a Sheltie and she had a lot of problems the older she got and I so wished I had insurance on her. |
We have Healthy Paws because it covers hereditary and congenital problems. |
Insurance I believe that Trupanion covers hereditary conditions |
Don't waste your money just open a dog account and drop $50 a dog a month in it. I had it and cancelled |
Trupanion doesn't cover patella surgery |
Trupanion I thought in the US it covered patella surgery unless it was pre existing when you enrolled? The trouble is that many dogs have the patella problem at a young age, before you enroll, and then it is not covered. The main reason I got insured was because of that later possibility. I may be wrong, if so I apologize. |
I'm in Canada and got my dog insurance from 13 Weeks old. It may be different here and in the US |
Trupanion I just called TP and they do cover LPs unless pre existing, in US and Canada. As for saving $50 a month, that is good too. But my dog had juvenile cataract surgery after I had the insurance for only a few months at a cost of around $3600 for one eye, and I for one am glad I was insured! He may have to get the other eye too, another large bill. Luxating patellas have a similar cost. It is the luck of the draw and I feel more comfortable being insured, but to each his own. |
Then they changed my plan. It clearly said on my package they didn't cover it. My dog didn't have it as a pre existing condition either. |
Ins Perhaps so. I specifically asked about Canada. But it is possible rules changed. I am sorry if you were not able to use the insurance. |
we have care credit. we've had it for 3 years and never used it and so far has not cost us anything. kind of like a regular credit card if you use it you pay and if you don't you pay nothing. so far all the vets up here in Michigan have said they would take it. I'll know more about this this Friday, my girls are going in for the ultrasound to see if we are pregnant. I know they are I can feel the puppies. Mainly want to make sure about how many and there size. it's well worth having in an emergency or knowing that you have it. |
my vet told me to take the money that i would spend on insurance and put it in a savings account which i did// i also got a care credit card and if you pay it off within 6 months they dont charge you any interest |
Have VPI for Waffles |
I have Trupanion and they have been wonderful. I pay about $35/month and went with the no deductible option. They are great about getting a check out within a week, but I am happy to see above that they started direct deposit (thanks for the tip). Charlie has severe allergies (grass, cats, chicken, gluten, etc) and they covered 90% of his prick testing and his weekly immunotherapy injections. There has been such an improvement in his health since we narrowed down his allergens that he is living a happy and itch free life now! They even cover his special shampoos and hypoallergenic dog food. I have been 100% happy with them and would recommend to any/everyone! Good luck! |
