Wow, how amazing! My grandparents lost their home, possessions and pets this summer in a fire and it is not something you ever want to experience. I am always thinking about fire hazards... It's not something I will probably ever get over. I am so glad you did not have to experience it. Thank goodness!!

Thank God you had car trouble. I am so happy that you avoided a tragedy.

wow, what a close call! Sometimes when you have bad luck and especailly a bunch of bad luck at once it's hard to remember that maybe that is what is supposed to happen. Things have a way of working out- I'm so glad everything worked out ok!

What a day indeed. The thought of what might have happened is terrible. They say everything happens for a reason and sometimes bad things are blessings in disguise. Glad all is well.

So very sorry about your family's loss. I imagine that's something that will always haunt all of you. Coming so close to losing my fur-baby and my children's photos, memorabilia, etc., really gives one a new perspective on what's important. Still in a kind of shock, watching Liberty run around the house playing, with no clue as to how close it all got, all because of something that seemed so benign - a portable vanity mirror and sunshine, for Pete's sake. After each use, am now unplugging it, putting it in bottom of walk-in closet, closing closet door, keeping shades drawn, and covering built-in mirror on the vanity covered with towel. Looks like a paranoid person lives here now. :eek:

What did you say was smoking? Was it something paper or cloth and did you ever see an actual flame or got there before the actual flame started?

It was the wood on the top part of my vanity. My vanity sits next to a large, southern window. On the vanity I kept a lighted makeup mirror (it is two sided) as the vanity's built-in oval mirror is over an arm's length away and my tired eyes need magnification to put on my "eyes". The window was only partially open for safety as I'd left home. I went over to the window to open up further so my plant could get more light. I saw something wispy and, on further inspection, noticed it was curling. Then I thought oh S***t, that's smoke! A flash caught my eye and I grabbed the shirt on the vanity's wood, the wooden part that holds the built-in mirror to the oval frame. I put the spark out and then ran and got wet towel and soaked the area. It happened so fast I actually don't remember going to get the towel :confused: As a souvenir, I have a scorched line there. Apparently, the back side of the lighted mirror (the electric one) reflected some sun that was already coming in from the window back the opposite way, onto the wood. Too crazy to anticipate something like this - that's part of what makes it so scary! Didn't know how to shorten this description.

Glad your car wouldn't start and then you went home when they came to give you a jump. You saved your house and your fur baby. God was watching out for you. I have stickers in my front bay window and back slider that I have a dog (Amy) in the house if there is a fire or anything else that would happen
