Do you have a soft spot for a certain gender?
 

I remember that for the longest time,I didnt care for male dogs.I always prefered females.Then,6 years ago,we went to visit a breeder with another female in mind (we already had 2 yorkie girls back then and wanted another) but for some reason I was drawn to the male of the litter.
We ended up bringing him home and since then,I have a HUGE soft spot for the boys :love:

Chicco (that was his name) died (he got heartworm when he was just 3) and I was crushed..but years later,Milo came into my life and I love him sooooooo very much :love:
I just think that the boys are so afectionate and noble..their heart barely fits in that little chest!! :)
I took a pic of him today..dont get me wrong,I love my girl too! But Milo is so special to me :love:

What a handsome fella. :) I feel that the males have the qualities that most would think a female would carry. Usually way more affectionate and open for cuddles. That's what it seems like to me. Although every Yorkie is different.

I've only had a female yorkie, but have had both sexes of other breeds. I don't know, I think it just depends on the dog. I think there is always "that one," the doggie love of your life, and for me it's my little girl who only has eyes for me! :)

Awe, I just got my little girl recently, and she's one heck of a fighter. She's fiesty, stubborn, won't listen, potty training a pain. But she's the cutest little girl I've ever had. Not to mention she won't cuddle with me, and adores my hubby more. I do have a 6 year old boy who is the total opposite of her. He loves me to death, loyal, smart, listens, does tricks, and always wants kisses and hugs. So go figure.......I love both of them in their own special way!

Boy or Girl Puppy ?

I think gender differences become unimportant when Yorkies are spayed or neutered.
I have raised, trained and loved both female and male Yorkies. I honestly think behavior is more a personality thing, than a gender thing.
Right now I have four Yorkies, two of each. My boys are more physically affectionate. The boys are less demanding about being the top doggie and let the girls boss them.

Abba Daddy is the sweetest most gentle Yorkie I have ever had. Rubin is ten years old and kind of set in his ways. He prefers people play to doggie interaction. For the most part Rubin is tolerant of fosters and has only had one fight in all these years.
My girls are Gracie who was a rescue and came with many personality hang ups and Ginny Joy who I’ve had since she was a puppy. Gracie is the boss and more moody than the boys. She also will bite hard and nip the other dogs if they bother her. She is my little selfish diva. I love her 'had a bad start but, look at me now' attitude. Ginny Joy is very sweet, not as kissy as the boys. She loves brushing and mothering toys or foster puppies.


So to answer the original question, look for personality, spay or neuter after sexual maturity* and don't worry about picking a boy or a girl. Love makes the perfect match.

* I have read a lot lately about waiting to spay and neuter until a dog is sexually mature. Several studies conclude it is better for bones, teeth, organs and personality development. My Vet has convinced me it is a real advantage to wait until Yorkies are at least 1 year of age.

I honestly believe it is a personality thing. When you click you click. I do love the girly dresses and bows .

Yup..Milo will be spayed next month,and he´ll be 1 on the 21st of this month.We were recomended to wait too :)

Is Milo marking?

He did mark when Bella was in heat (she´ll be fixed next month too,they´re sibblings from the same litter).
He was completely potty trained and then regressed for a while.We had to block off the rest of the house and start over with the porry training ;)

Now,just incase,I have a mix of vinegar and alcohol that I spray where he marked to stop him from doing it again.
As a rule,he´s very good about peeing on his rock :D

Edited to add: I just realised I said Milo will be "spayed" in my last post lol.Sorry about that! I obviously meant he will be neutered lol.

We have both although I truly believe boys are more affectionate... Love my baby boys!!!

I have to say, that I prefer boy dogs to girl dogs. I have fostered a female Yorkshire terrier & owned a female Scottish terrier & my two current dogs are boys. In all, I do believe that everything really comes down to personality as to whether or not you will click with a dog, but I still prefer boy dogs. I think it is because I like boy names better

Truthfully, no. I had great experiences with both sexes.

The first yorkie I ever met was a male one. I used to dog-sit him. It's because of him that I love the yorkie breed.

Tatiana is my first (and only) yorkie. She's female. Yes, she has a different personality from the male yorkie I knew, but I understand her. We have similar personalities, and we love each other deeply.

I guess I love both male and female yorkies.

I have only had girl Yorkies but I have had other breeds in males. Honestly, I love both genders! I like my girl yorkies because I love dressing them up. But I have had male dogs, such as my Great Pyrenees, who I loved with all my heart! He was just a big baby.

I love boy and girl dogs. With yorkies though, I generally prefer girls. Males more affectionate...wouldn't doubt it. I just like the yorkie girl personality overalll. They command resoect, havetheir own ideas, but love their owners very much in their own way. Makes it hard to train them though.:rolleyes:
