Zoe drank Draino!!!! I feel like the worst dog/human mom ever :( Long story short...pipe in the kitchen got a leak and while my mom and I were putting a bucket under the sink, Zoe licked the puddle of water which had draino in it! I gave her some milk and water, and my mom ran her to the Vet. I hate myself :( :( :( I think I caught her right away, but I worry since she is small. Why me? If anything happens to her I'll never forgive myself |
Oh my gosh!!!!! Please let us know how she is!!!!!!! |
How awful! It's not your fault. These things happen to all of us. At least you caught her right away. Good luck & let us know how she turns out! |
Its not your fault! accidents happen! Let us know how she's doing! |
Milk and water is the worst thing to do when a dog drink draino . You should go see your vet . |
Oh my gosh, you are not a bad mommy accidents happens. Please let us know what the vet says. I will have him in my prayers. I found this info, http://www.englandrunvet.com/safety....ehold_products In case of accidental exposure to cleaning products, it is generally recommended to flush the skin (or mouth) with plain water to wash away remaining chemicals, then call in to your veterinary clinic for further instructions. In the AAPCC 1990 report, 5.9% (2,217 animals) of all non-drug poison exposures were inquiries following exposure to cleaning products, with 80 of those animals being moderately to severely affected. |
Things and accidents happen. At least you were quick to get her to the vet. Let us know the outcome. |
Keeping my fingers crossed she didn't ingest enough to hurt her. Keep us posted. |

Ashleigh-You are NOT a bad mom, you reacted quickly and your mom took your baby to the Dr., that is what matters! I'm sure everything will be fine. Keep us posted. |

The vet is keeping her for a few hours. He said she looks fine, not like she drank much at all (since I had just done dishes and there was lots of water in the pipes, it was diluted). He said her pupils were not dialated, which is good, and she had no leisions/damage in her mouth. He said it was most important that we got her there so soon (in like 10 minutes). They are going to do this treatment every hour and keep an eye on her, but he said she's most likely going to be fine and she probably just licked the puddle once and stopped. Thanks so much everyone else. I appreciate it. I will keep you updated. |
Let us know how your baby is doing. There is no reason for any of us to jump on you because you are already blaming yourself enough. For future reference, you can always call your local Poison Control Unit for info and a referral.. |
Bless your heart. If only we had eight pairs of eyes, we could prevent some of these things from happening. They are so quiet and so quick to head straight for any puddle anywhere. It sounds like she's going to be alright thanks to your quick actions. :) |
Oh, I'm sooo glad she is going to be ok! See, you are the BEST mommy for getting her help right away. |
Thanks ladies. I need 8 pairs of eyes. Between her and my 15 month old trying to get into things in the kitchen I am losing it. If the pipe wouldn't have been old, it wouldn't have leaked. Otherwise, I have locks on ALL my cabinets and I wouldn't even have used the stupid draino. I should have just called a plumber and called it a day. |
I am so sorry! Let us know how the Zoe is! |
AWWWWWWWWW, the 20-20 HINDsight we all wish we had as foresight. I am so glad your little fur-baby is alright. Since you have a 15 month old hooman, please contact your poison control center for stickers with the phone number AND Mr. Yuck stickers for other things.. This is in no way a criticism, so please do not be offended by my posts.. |
I'm so glad to hear that she is probably unharmed! Thank goodness :D . I am sure that scared the crap out of you and that you must be soooo relieved to hear the vet saying such positive things! I am soooo happy for you. Please let us know when you get her home and that she is fine and dandy. |
Thanks. I wrote down the number and put it on our fridge and taped it on the phone and put it in my cell phone. Luckly, I had the bottle still and read what to do on it. My first instinct would be to induce vomitting, how I don't know, but with Draino, you do NOT do that. |
OMG! I cant believe that, I am so sorry about that. you will have to let us know how she is if she is ok???? |
Ashleigh: I hope Zoe continues to be okay, accidents can happen to anyone. Good job in reading the back of the bottle and rushing her to the vet! :) |
Please don't be too hard on yourself. It was an accident and I of all people know how you feel!!!! I'm sure your little one will be just fine and it's very good you got Zoe to the vet quickly. If it had not been for my husbands quick reflexes to grab Gus and just go, he would not be here today. Please keep us informed on how Zoe's doing. I will keep the both of you in thought. |

I'm glad that Zoe seems fine. And I did the same things w/ my pipes once, you know draino will clear drains, cause it sure eats a nice hole in pipes. Sink wasn't clogged any more though ;) |
Oh wow, Ashleigh! Great job on getting Zoe immediate attention!!! You are sooooo good! I was scared to death from the title of your post, and am so pleased that you reacted so quickly! What a great mom you are, dear! Please keep us posted on Zoe. I am sure she will be fine, judging from your last post. Good luck! |

;) lol I'm going to call the vet right now to check on her. |
Uh, if you read the full post she said her mom did take the dog to the vet. And some people and vets recommend milk as it can sometimes absorb the poison. |
I called the vet and they said she is doing fine. that she ws just as good as when we left her, if not, better. They are going to continue the hourly treatment they are giving her, then we can pick her up at 3!!! They said she is going to be ok. Thank GOD! I am so thankful to have your support. I felt so much better after hearing your kind words. |
Great news! I'm glad to here she's doing better! You better give her lots of TLC tonight ;) |
Oh, these things happen. I once put Clorax in cup to have it ready to put in the washer. My 1-1/2 year old son climbed on the table and took a drink, thinking it was apple juice. Luckily, he is now 26 and doing well, he survived inspite of his dumb mother. I bet it will never happen to you again !! Thank God she is going to be fine. |
I hope she's going to be ok !!! That's very scary but flying to the vet was the best thing to do - keeping your baby in my thoughts and hopefully she hardly got any when she licked the water....Bless your heart - you must have been in a panic ....Good luck |
I'm so glad to hear that your baby is doing well. :) |
