First of all I would like to say Hi and so glad I found this site!!!
I adopted a little 5 pound 4 year old yorkie. Her name is Mercy, She is such a joy hubby calls her my shadow! she follows me everywhere even lays out side the shower when I am in it. The old owner feed her nothing but cat food! so I was trying to get her to eat dog food with no luck tried both hard & canned 5 different kinds of each. she went 3 days with nothing to eat. I got so worried I Made some hamburger with mashed peas & Carrots and a little rice in it. Tried it and she ate it 1/2 a cup twice a day for the last 3 days!!
I guess what I am asking is this ok to feed her should she be getting a multivitamin also. Also if anyone else home cooks for their yorkies what recipie do you use? and do you suppliment with any vitamins? Any help would be very much appreciated. I will post a picture as soon as I figure out how to do it!

I would boil some chicken and grind it up in a food processor and sprinkle a little on her kibble. At first you may have to wet her kibble so the chicken sticks to it this always has worked with mine who are very picky eaters also. Don't feed her cat food it has things in it that are not good for her. I think what you are feeding her now is probably ok as long as you boil the hamburger to remove the excess grease.

Welcome and congratulations on giving Mercy he forever home. I don't have any experience with home cooking but there are some knowledgable people on here that may be able to help.

Hi and welcome to YT.....I don't do the home cooking only when mine are sick and then it's boiled chicken breast ground up, chicken broth and rice.

Some inexpensive red meat fried to med. rare, then cut it up and add some steamed veggies, such as carrots, brocolli, or green beans, and you could also add some cooked pearled barley, which has more good things in it than rice. I home cook and I think it's the best, safest and healthiest way to feed.

I would talk to a vet nutritionist about home cooking and you do need to give a supplement.

I got a yorkie recently and wanted to upgrade her current dog food. What worked for me was taking her new kibble and pouring some homemade chicken broth over it. I just boiled two boned chicken breasts in springwater for an hour. I then let cool and take off the fat. I use just a tablespoon full over her kibble and she gobbles it up. I save the chicken for treats and training...
