Oooh The Torture!
 
I am going to pick up my furkid next week Thursday. It is killing me! I can't help but wish I chose to get him sooner. I was trying to stick to the 12 weeks and am picking him up 2 days short of 12 weeks. I CANT TAKE IT! I wish I just got him this week and I would have him already. This sucks. I'm anxious, pacing, looking at more stuff to order, looking over these threads, and running through case scenarios. If I wasn't going halfway across the country, I think I would have just went right over and picked him up.

Can't blame you there! If I were waiting on one, those days and weeks would be hard to deal with.

Haha. I try movies and read books like a fiend when I'm having to wait something out. Like one right after the other. Going out to a movie gets your mind off things. I prefer the earlier movie and then a nice dinner.

You know... a movie sounds great. I think I may go see side affects. I ordered some more yorkie books, but they wont be here until next week.

Nothing like the big screen and special effects and love scenes and popcorn to help take your mind off something eating at you! Go see a good film!

I wish I just got him sooner, but realistically I am doing the best thing by leaving him with the breeder. He's learning those last minute things I can teach him as well as him learning from litter-mates and mom. Plus, I know he is well taken care of and I can see him everyday so that helps.

This is what I tell myself anyway...:rolleyes:

Yea that was my thing... going to the gym and going to see a movie. That's really is a good idea. I was just talking to someone saying I should go see a movie the other day.

The wait is so hard! We got Georgie at 10 weeks but I agree 12 weeks is best. Looking forward to pics:)

Your baby will be with you soon how exciting! Enjoy running around with no schedule doing what you want. You will want to stay at home all the time with your sweet baby once he is in your arms. :)

Pamper yourself and rest up these last weeks. You will need to indulge yourself a bit now as the first 6 weeks with a new one can be a bit tough lacking sleep, starting housebreaking, the cleaning up accidents and all the getting adjusted, things like that. I'd give that baby the extra time needed and take the time now to go easy on yourself.

Lucky for me my current situation allows me to be with him all day. With the exception of a couple of hours for school. How much should I expect him to sleep if I am around all day? I want him to get the rest he needs and not be distracted by engaging with me all day. Should I leave and come back throughout the day?

It's hard to really gauge what I'm getting myself into. I don't have kids and it's been a long time since I had a dog. Well... family dog. However, I am up for the challenge.

I found Georgie slept when he wanted and played when he wanted. It didn't matter to him if I was there or not similar to now lol. He gives me a look like ok Mom I am done now:)

I would allow him to experience you being gone from time to time from the first so that he doesn't become so dependent on you. Just be sure that he's recently eaten, has some food and water available and make your getaway for a while. No prolonged or emotional goodbyes - just gather your things and leave. About the puppy sleeping habits, it's been so long since I've had a puppy, I can't recall but as I remember they do sleep a great deal, wake, pee/poop, eat, play, pee/poop, sleep, pee/poop, etc. I think I remember my young ones being away about an hour at a time - something like that.

Certainly good to know. I think I am going to just tweak his schedule as needed. If he gets up too early, I'll put him to bed later... those kind of things.

Thanks for this advice. I am certainly going to keep this in mind. Uggggh... I can't wait.

Georgie has always been a good sleeper. I will admit he has been in bed with us since his first night home:) It's really like having a human child...I know I have both:) You will get into a groove and be fine in no time with the schedule.:)

I was in your shoes just a week or so ago! You're gonna do great! Relax and just enjoy the ride. Just think, when you do have your little darlin' you'll be head over heals in love! Congrats on your new pup. Please share picts. We love picts!!

That's another thing... I am still not solid on certain things I am or not going to do. Before I was like from day 1 he is sleeping with me! Now I am not so sure if that is the best thing. I DONT KNOW! LOL What if I am sleep and he gets out of bed and I don't notice. I am hoping to adjust rather quickly.

I know!! My isn't the shoe on the other foot now. How have you adjusted to Princess Sophie?

Well our intentions were good had a crate and everything lol. The first night after about 15 minutes of whining I said I can't listen to him he sounded pitiful so I took him out and literally changed the way I slept for him. Over 7 years later we wouldn't have it any other way:) Georgie never got out of the bed and he woke us up to go potty.

PS My puppy memories are all joyous ones like my memories of my son when he was a newborn lol. All those sleepless nights seem to fade away as time goes on:)

Buster is peed pad trained. So he gets up in the middle of the night and goes pee and comes back to bed. I have a ramp set up for him to get off the bed. When he was a puppy he would be in the crate that I had on a table so he was next to my bed. I really can't imagine sleeping with out him now. When I had to leave him I actually had a hard time not having him to cuddle with. One thing actually lay on your floor and look at all the things a puppy could get into trouble with. I baby proofed my house got covers for the electrical outlets. A poster's puppy actually chewed on a electrical cord near their crate and got a shock. The owner did not notice it until looking for what made their puppy act odd and noticed it spark when she moved the cord! I gate off areas to keep him away when I am cooking or moving around items that might fall on him. I had to learn how to walk with a shuffle because he was always under my feet, some use a bell. I had a black throw on my couch as when he was on it I could not see him and was worried I would sit on him he was so small. I continue to marvel at how small Buster actually is compared to how big he thinks he is.

I read over the thread of all the cute things they do to get your attention. I hope he does something cute, and wakes me if he needs anything. I think during the day I will get up every 1-2 hours to take him out and at night every 3 or if he wakes me. Plus I am using belly bands. I am really trying to get this potty thing down as quickly as possible. His name plate has a bell. Does it spoil them to be held all the time?

I was in your shoes too. Galen did not come to me until 13 weeks :eek: oh the wait was a little nutty for me. Being home I was OCDing about things. lol you are doing what is best for your new little one. I am so excited for you. I can not wait to see pics. The count down begins !

Yes. That is very good....
Both of Ry's sisters and his brother went before him.... so he was the last to go... but he had several other adult dogs to play around with... It was actually awesome having him last to go because he was already kind of used to sleeping without his litter mates. He cried for maybe 3 minutes and then was out like a light!!

I bought a Snuggle Puppy and had it FedEx'd to the Breeder to get the parents scent on it and brought that home, with him. He still carries his Snuggle Puppy "Buddy" from room to room and Loves on him. secret though. It isn't the Same snuggle puppy. Buddy #1 started getting ratty, so I bought him a new one. :p
