Please make me understand! Hi fellow Yorkie Lovers. I am wondering about something.. I have seen many avatars of Yorkies of members who post here at Yorkie Talk and private messaged them asking if they would so graciously share who their breeders were.. To date I have only received one response and that was to tell me he didn't remember who it was...he met them at a dog show! I'm soooo very perplexed....I truly don't get it! I had to say goodbye to my precious Lexie in Dec....I have been heartbroken to say the least. And grieving, bought a puppy that was sick that I had to return...another trauma to say the least. I have been burned 3 times in the purchase of a Yorkie over the last 15 years...hardly trust anyone anymore, which is so sad. When those of us who are looking for another Yorkie to share our love with...and our heart with...why do you withhold? If you have beautiful, healthy Yorkies from breeders you would highly recommend...PLEASE SHARE!!! I have read countless posts about breeders we should stay away from...but what about the ones that would bless our hearts with beautiful healthy dogs? I don't understand....Can someone, anyone explain? And I am asking this sincerely and from my heart. Susan |
I'm wondering who you have private messaged. Are they people who are very active here? Because I know many who basically stay on the forum night and day and they would definitely respond to you. I can tell you my answer in public...I bought Mandie from a couple who had gotten her from a breeder in northern Alabama. By the age of 4 months, both of their schedules changed and they just did not have the time to give to my Mandie. Along came me. I won't recommend the breeder she came from because it was not a reputable breeder..it was a BYB (backyard breeder). Well, based on my research and not being able to really find much out about them..this is my conclusion. I've been very blessed so far with Mandie and pray that her health continues. I can absolutely tell you where I will be trying to get my next Yorkie (a year or 2 down the road still). That would be Tyava Yorkies out of Marietta, Ga. They have championship lines in the breed and have been breeding and showing for 20 years. Their babies are adorable. *Their "Sure Shot (Chandler Bing)" was BOB at Westminster in 2007, 08, and 09. And, he was the #1 Yorkie in 2006 and 2007. *Their Wyatt Earp was #1 Yorkie in 2004 and 2005 and was BOB at Westminster in 2005 Find some that post here many times daily..especially look in the breeders section, too. Breeders here can recommend. We have some great ones and if I was closer to Yorkiemom1, I'd be going on her waiting list for sure! Hope this helps |
Without knowing who you contacted, it's hard to offer any explanation. Maybe they aren't very active members? Perhaps they don't want to recommend their particular breeder, but also don't want to reveal to you that wouldn't recommend them...I dunno. Some people just like to keep that info private, I suppose. Maybe they got their kiddo from a pet store, but don't want to say that. It could also be that because you're so new to YT and haven't posted too much yet, they're hesitant to respond and disclose info. I can think of so many reasons, none of which are meant personally or in such a way as to make you feel bad....and I'm so sorry that it did make you feel bad, bc I'm just sure it wasn't intentional. I'm also sorry to hear of your loss, that's so heartbreaking :(. I know you will find another yorkie to fill up your world. Have you gone to YTCA.org yet? That is the yorkie breed club and they do have a breeders list and contact info there. Occasionally, their are some wonderful breeders who offer pups for sale here. That said, always be very very careful about buying any pup online. People here can help you 'check out' breeders' websites and such. Hang in there, and don't give up on finding that perfect kiddo. |
I agree...I hope that they weren't inactive members! I would think any active member would be more than happy to share that information with you. Are you looking for a local breeder? |
Where do you live? My breeder lives in Delaware and refuses to ship her puppies. You have to pick them up. She has clients from as far south as North Carolina and as far north as New York. Se requires that you bond with them at her home once a week (minimum of 4 times). This is a big commitment for most. |
Want to understand! Thanks to all for the gracious comments made to me of those who responded to my post.. I am sorry if I sounded harsh...it's just been a tough course of events since I lost my two little babies....actually one in Sept. and one in December. Noah first...and then Lexie. It has been so difficult....I don't even want to come into the house after being out because the house is still ...and dreary...and I miss having the love that used to greet me... I know I can't replace them....and I am working through this with God's help...but I do think another Yorkie would help me heal..and it would be such a blessing to me and to my next Yorkie because I have a lot of love to give! It would just be so helpful to have a place to start with names of breeders to go on. Actually, I don't know who I PMed as I didn't check the box that would make a notation of where my messages went. I have since changed that option. And I do hope for more responses to my inquiries. I have a few prospects now from people outside of YT that I'm excited about...but I really was perplexed at the lack of responses here. Your reasons sound legitimate though...so thank you. Again...sorry if I sounded harsh...didn't mean to come on so strong, but was so discouraged...good night friends..Susan |
I am so very sorry for your losses and hope you will be able to find a puppy. Mine came from a broker so I would not recommend that but maybe someone here will be able to help you. Have you tried looking at the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America's website ytca.org? |
Hoping you find a new little one soon. It sounds like you have a lot of love to give and a very big heart. Please keep us posted. |
Hello and welcome to YT. I am sorry about the loss of your two babies. I know that is very hard to deal with. I bought Jack from a store (actually a puppy broker and didn't realize at the time they were associated with puppymills). So I would never give out that information, although Jack, fortunately for us, so far has been very healthy. Izzy we bought from one of the breeders here, Brenda of Greens Treasured Yorkies. Her website is Home - Greens Treasured Yorkies. I can see the differences between our two and see how well socialized Izzy over Jack. If I were to get another Yorkie, I would definitely call upon Brenda again. She was wonderful to work with and I do believe she will ship her puppies (actually they are sent with a courier and hand delivered). She is located in Michigan and we were able to drive to her and pick up Izzy from her. Good luck in your search. |
As hard as it ws for me to lose one dog, I cant imagine losing 2 in rapid sucession. My heart goes out to you. As far as breeders, I got my current pup almost 4 years ago from a friend who wasnt even a breeder. She just had a Silky she wanted pups from & bred with another friends yorkie. I brought mine home at 8weeks. I have since learned how terribly wrong that could have gone from day one and how wonderfully lucky I am to have a happy, healthy pet. After reading so many posts on YT, next time I will research breeders, etc, just as you are doing. My Husband and I laughed about how our free puppy only cost us over $500 in supplies even before we took him home! :D |
I looked up the breeders for my state on YTCA (Yorkshire Terrier Club of America) and started calling. I found a couple with puppies, liked one a lot, she emailed me pics, and that's how I got Columbo. |
Most all of mine have been Rescues that I adopted. Out the 12 Yorkies I have had over the years, only 3 of them I have ever bought. My 1st from a Pet Store which I don't recommend, my 2nd one my hubby got from BYB also don't recommend, my 3rd one I bought came from a great breeder that showed her Yorkies, she lives in North Carolina. |

I'm so sorry for your losses. I can't even begin to imagine how you must feel :( Please know that the pm may just have been missedor as others have mentioned they arent very active. I pray you will find another lil to love and help ease the pain :hands: |
I'm so very sorry for your losses, I can't imagine! I was going to recommend Carmen to you, but I see that she already responded! Best of luck in your search for a new love! |
Hi, and welcome. I am sorry about the loss of both your Yorkies. You did not PM me...and I probably wouldn't have seen it in the last 2 days 'cuz of Westminster capturing my attention...lol, but I wouldn't have been able to share that information because I re-homed both of mine when they were 14 and 17 months old. Feel free, however, to PM me if you like...not sure who I know in NJ off the top of my head and will have to look up where they are, but will point you in every direction I can. I understand how bad the pain of losing a much loved baby hurts...I am a 'past president' of the 'broken heart club' myself...and I am sending lots of {{{hugs}}} your way...and wishing you much luck finding your next little heartbeat. |
First let me say I am very sorry for your loss. Welcome to YT Susan. I have 5 Yorkies and only one of the breeders is still active in showing and breeding today. She does not ship puppies and has a very long waiting list. She only has one litter a year. This is what I think, 1. many of us live far away ( me in Fl), 2. Our breeder is not some one still in business or someone we would suggest. 3. We have rescues, or one time thing. 4 Some of us don't know anyone to suggest, our Yorkies came to us from family members, A Show dog who produced an off standard puppy, friends etc. who truly are not a breeder. 5. It is sad that the people you PMed did not answer. Maybe they are not active members or don't check their mail. I know the perfect puppy is out there for you. Keep trying to find her/him. God Bless and hugs. |
Susan, I just wanted to say I am so sorry for your losses. You are right..no other pup will replace them, but they can help heal your heart. Praying you find just the right one for you!!! :) |
Susan I just wanted to share my condolences over the loss of your babies. I too would miss that special greeting when I came home. I pray you find that special Yorkie soon and wish you all the best. You obviously have a lot of love to share and he/she will be a very lucky furbaby. |
Please make me understand! Hello friends...just want to say a huge heartfelt "thank you" to all those who were so gracious and kind to reply to my post about not understanding why people may not have replied to the inquiries I PMed to individuals asking about the breeders of their dogs. Since my original post, So many of you have PMed me....and given their condolences for the loss of 2 of my babies.. and encouragement ....as well as all of you that wrote me here on the public forum giving kind condolences and encouragement as well....thank you all so very much!! Your words have meant alot...and thanks to those who have given recommendations...and the reasons they couldn't recommend! What a shower of blessings! I will report I have a couple of prospects in mind...I am enthusiastic and excited about them! I am praying God leads me as I look for the one God has for me..I am so very hopeful! I know you are all rooting for me...once again..thank you! God bless! Susan |
I am so sorry for your losses and heart aches, and want to wish you the best of luck in finding the right puppy for you. I think many of us simply don't have a good breeder to recommend. Many of us found Yorkie Talk AFTER acquiring our pups from other sources, and not even knowing what a good breeder was, let alone how and where to find one. I hope that a happy healthy pup is out there for you to help heal your heart. |
Hello and welcome to YT...pls check out Carmen she is an active member here and a breeder of the Silky Terrier/ close cousin of the Yorkie, I believe....user name Carmen in nj |
Please make me understand! Yes, Carmen was kind enough to, along with many others, respond to my original email! Thank you Carmen! I know you breed beautiful Silky Terriers....very close to the little Yorkies which so have stolen my heart! And from my poking around here on the Forum I see you help breeders with questions about whelping, etc. You are a valuable and much appreciated member... Thanks once again my friends....God Bless |
I might be having a litter of yorkies soon :D, i am not advertising, but I will need good homes once I have them.. :p hugs, mama is 6 pounds 4 onz, and dad is 5 pound 13 onz.. |
Please make me understand! Thank you Carmen...I will keep you in mind... Praying God's blessing on your next litter and finding just the right home for each and every one of those babies! God Bless you..Susan |

Susan, I'm so glad you're getting some responses and I hope we get to hear soon of a new kiddo coming your way! |
Welcome and I'm so sorry for your losses. I hope you will find your pup soon and please share pics with us. |
So sorry you've been suffering...I had a real challenge finding someone I could trust too. If I were in the states I would look up the American Kennel Club or sites that offer Yorkshires to adopt, actually, I did both even though I don't live in the USA. However, I was able to find the equivalent to the AKC of this country, then I found a local office who gave me 2 recommendations. One breeder had puppies coming available the end of April, the other had puppies on site and I bought one just a week ago today. If you are still interested, I'd be happy to p.m. you with the breeders information and see if he would ship international but I don't see that you would need to go through that hassle. Maybe you could have started a thread asking for a recommendation of a reputable breeder, looked at who sent it to you, if still interested, looked at the breeder's website and went from there. Hopefully, now you'll get a good recommendation and be posting soon with pictures of your new bundle of joy!!! |
Hello and welcome. I am sorry for your loss. Well I do not have a yorkie. I have a beautiful Biewer. If you are interested in Biewers ;) there is even a few wonderful people here that are wonderful breeders |
