Looks like we have to switch brands,so... So we took Milo to the vet today about the hair loss on his muzzle, paws and ears, and weŽve been told to switch brands of food. His skin is healthy, there are no bacteria or parasites etc,so his vet thinks it could be a food allergy. Milo & Bella were originally on Royal canin before Acana, and they were doing great on that..the only reason we changed their food was because I read that royal canin was just a cheap and bad quality kibble loaded with fillers (grains and ground rice etc) with a popular brand name,so we switched them to the best we could get our hands on which is Acana. So,what should I do now? Put them back on Royal canin?? I really really hate what I know about it :( Is there another good brand out there that has actual meat in its ingredients instead of junk and fillers? What are you all feeding your yorkies? |
This is the same thing that happen to Honey about 3 weeks ago Im still trying to figure out what food to feed her. |
Have you contacted Fromm, GO or NOW and asked for samples? I'm sure other YT folks could add some. Fromm was great about sending me samples when I wanted a better quality food. Cali decided she really liked the Surf & Turf. |
I agree with the above post you can even try a pet supply store and ask for samples. The pet boutique I go to has a whole section of samples. After going thru a few I also decided on Fromm, Valentino really liked the game bird recipe. |

I find it ironic that you switched and then had problems. |
I also just switched my Biewer off of Royal Canin. The breeder had him on RC puppy, I thought it was junk, and my puppy had lots of eye goop. I just went over to Canine Caviar that I buy online. My boys like it and the eye goop has decreased dramatically. But many people rave about Fromm and Honest Kitchen. There are good choices out there! |
Huey has done well on Blue Buffalo. He used to have occasional vomiting issues which have resolved almost 100% since switching. |
Marilyn, do you use the grain free one? |
RC is a good food. I feed it to my boys when I'm not cooking for them. I'd stick with what worked before all the problems started. Good luck. |
Izzy's breeder had her on RC puppy and we noted that she was always itching, but no issues with fleas or anything. I just switched her to Halo's Spot's Stew and they love it and have had no issues. Spot's Stew is one of the better foods out there. Oh and Izzy's itching has decreased dramatically. |

No reason to apologize... I am to on/off all day. I've emailed them a few times with a response but not a answer to my questions. I also like to give my dogs a little bit of variety. Great news with the no vomit. I also have 2 animals in the house with sensitive stomachs and it is a nightmare to say the least! |

I have nothing bad to say about RC... They really seem to be on top of the taste for the dogs! |
My pup's name is Milo too :) When we first got Milo he was on Diamond Pets, not even their supposed Naturals branch. The food was a joke. We have tried a few different brands since, and I have recently settled on Blue Wilderness for small breeds. Not planning on changing anything regarding kibble unless quality of it changes or another food promises odorless poop that dissipates once air born while also doubling as a hair detangler as well of course :D |

Ha! I'm sure or of people would be switching in that case! |
Riley had a bad reaction to the last bag of Acana he started eating. The changed the formula. You can see photos here. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ths-later.html |
Charlie is on the RC Hepatic and does very well I have no complaints about it at all |
Ugh..well,I doubt weŽll be going back to RC :( I really loathe the ingredients and cant get passed it. The 5 main ingredients are -Chicken meal, brown rice, rice, chicken fat, corn gluten meal & barley..all of which are just fillers, fat and synthetic meat :( Has anyones yorkie done good on homemade food? (veggoes, meat, eggs etc). |
Cooper started out on RC but it did not agree with his tummy at all, and he wasn't interested in the food or ate much when he did eat. My sister came to visit a few days after Cooper came home, and her little Chloe eats Wellness Supermix 5 for puppies and Cooper wanted to get to Chloe's food so badly. I incorporated a bit of that with his RC and he picked out the Wellness and left the RC. I looked it up on Dogfood Advisor, and it rated really well, so I bought a bag for him and slowly switched him over. I would love to try the Fromm since they have so many flavors to select from, but I think I will wait a bit before making another change. |
