Baby Gates 1 Attachment(s) How many YTers use baby gates? I currently at using a gate similar to this one Attachment 380421 but wanted to purchase another gate. I'm wanting to buy a walk-through gate and wanted to know if anyone uses one? If so, which kind and do you like it? Thanks! :) |
ZoE is 2yrs old now, so I rarely use gates. I do have one handy though for those times when I'm working on a home improvement or craft project and have stuff laying out & then need to run to the store for something. If I were to buy a new gate today, I would definately get a step through design. I'm getting to old to be climbing baby gates! |

Well I used a baby gate for about 2 days...then my 9 week Yorkie figured out how to climb over it. I took a video of her climbing over it, she was smart to figure it out! |
Between the daycare and the dogs we have gates EVERYWHERE, lol 2 are walkthrough gates which I love, and the rest are the kind in the pic you posted which I actually broke a toe going over.....okay maybe I was jumping over but still! LOL |
I used to use the gate that you have but it became a nuisance to hop over. I have 2 of these in my house and they are amazing! Easy to put together and easy to open and close. |
Munchkin Deco Wood Gate - Dark Wood - Best Price} you might want to try this one. Miss Mia was:( a very tall girl, very tall...she use to stand over Miss Mini:(...anyway...Miss Mia was a climber, a jumper, and there was no gate she couldn't climb, someone told me about this and I got it. I have 1 across my kitchen, one at the back doorway incase anyone coming in wasn't careful and let them out....I also put one in the doorway of the hallway leading to the bedrooms. I bought them at USA Baby buy one, get one half off, not sure if this is a sale they have often there... I like them to keep Mini out of the kitchen when I am busy and don't want to worry, to keep her contained incase someone with small kids etc, comes over and like the other day when I broke a pickle jar:D full with pickles....to keep her from stealing any of my coveted pickles while I cleaned up my mess...thank god all I had to do was rinse them:D:eek: |
We have 2 gates. This one: Evenflo Summit Pressure Mounted Metal Gate - Walmart.com They can be opened with one hand, open in both directions and were reasonably priced. Good luck picking one! |

2 Attachment(s) This is what I use for Chloe .... It's low enough for me to step over and I like the fact I can open the little door for her to come out. |
Our house is one story minus a loft and Callie fell on the stairs and there's no door at the top and we are using it for guests so we bought a walk through baby gate for the bottom of the stairs and it works great I got it at bed bath and beyond and I am going to get another one for my hallway I think. Baby gates are awesome! |

I have this kind...very pretty and "formal" looking, for the great room to the hall ways and each bedroom....I have a white one for the door into the utility room, from the kitchen....I have baby gates ALL over my house! My dogs would have to go thru at least 2 baby gates, in order to get to any outside leading door! I certainly wouldnt be so smug to say it will never happen, but I CAN say, it will be a cold day in Hell before any of these dogs are ever able to sneak, slip, bolt or even casually stroll out some door in this house, leading to the front yard! I LOVE baby gates....I have a pretty nice home, but it actually looks more like a feed lot now...fenced and crossed fenced, with baby gates and ex-pens blocking exits and confining babies from certain areas of the house, and kept IN certain areas........if my mother could see my home, she would be doing 360* spins in her grave! |
I love my walk through gate. Mine has a little door pass thorough for the cats. Mine is made by Carlson. It is heavy duty and takes a beating. |

I bouth an extendable gate from our Petsmart. It can stretch across the living room, other room area and I can move it so I do not have to climb over it. I like this one and oh yes we have a two other gates to keep the yorkies out of the carpet area and only on the tile. |
i had a cheap wooden one until i tried stepping over it and fell on it. lol needless to say the gate didn't make it lol |
The only place I currently have a baby gate is at the top of the stairs from the deck to the backyard. Huey has never gone down these stairs nor has he ever tried since we put that gate up before we ever brought him home. Those stairs are very steep and regular deck stairs-open front and back. I woukd definitely use a baby gate at the top of the indoor hardwood stairs if Huey was on any activity restrictions or injured, because he runs down those so quickly (which scares me to death) cause half the time he is in such a hurry to see whatever he is going for outside the front door that he falls down the last couple of steps or jumps too far over the last 2 or 3 and hits the front door...dingbat...:D. When we first got him, we had one of those metal folding pens that that open up into a fence-like wall that we used to block off certain areas of the house as needed, like when he decided the leg of the dining room table made a good potty...we blocked off that room until he was retrained. Open floor plan-baby gates don't work so well. |

I would like to thank everyone for their input, its great to see what type of gate everyone uses. I'm excited to get a walk-through gate and say goodbye to jumping/hopping over baby gate! :D I think my guests would be extremely happy as well, especially the ones who weren't used to going over the gate! |

I also need a 5 foot wide gate for the doorway from the living room to the kitchen. I want to get the extra panels for the IRIS ex-pen, and I can use those to block that doorway. |
Yup, we have about 3 baby gate type thingys. They're wood w/ metal. I also use a few wire shelves (individual ones) to block certain areas. I like using them bc they're not so high, making them very easy to always step over. Very lightweight too. Plus, you can spray paint them to match your decor. |
We had to attach wire shelving to our walk thru gate because Elfie is so small she can squeeze thru LOL Took her getting stuck once!:D |
I have the walk thru gates ordered from Wal-mart on line by evenflow. I find the squeeze and push down action needed to open the gate a hassel with my arthritis. My Yorkies can not climb this gate, they could climb the one with little plastic holes. LOL like Yorkiemom1, my house is really a house set up for dogs, gates, fences, easy to clean floors, walls, and furniture. I am not in the least sorry. I would rather spend my money on Vet costs, than on silk drapes and porcelain artifacts. |

I too have many baby gates around my house, upstairs and dowstairs. I can still walk over them and the puppies are too small to go through them. I do have one fancier wood walk over adjustable width wood fence than i use in the nursery when the puppies are ready to go from puppy pens to the floor but not downstairs to the cold tile floor. At the top of our staircase and on the lower level before the staircase turns for the final two stairs, my husband screwed in 2 feet tall and the width of the stair posts, plexiglass so no curious dogs or puppies can fall down to the next level or go straight into the living room from the staircase onto the table adjacent to the staircase. |
The baby gates never worked well for me. They all had a step up for the puppy to climb on. Check out the walk through gates at your pet supply place. They may take more instillation but they are much more secure. |

Soon as I put a baby gate up, my zooey started climbing over it. Had a playpen and she climbed over that too. She's had free run of the house sice a pup. Can't keep her locked up. I figured she was safer free then climbing and jumping. Lol |
