Baths?? Now that Penny's first winter is here (it has been warm during the day this week) she has decided to sleep in bed with my hubby and I. (I said this would never happen when we first got her...). That is not the problem though. I give Penny a bath once a week, but by day five or so she gets SMELLY! How often can I give her a bath? I would like to about every four days. I use isle of dogs shampoo and conditioner. I have tried their brush spray, and the de-tangler. The spray products seem to make it worse- she gets oily and sticky and smelly. Anyone a frequent bather?? |
I bath ZoE once a week. She stays pretty clean & fresh smelling throughout the week. In the summer, when we are out & about more, she tends to get a little dirtier. So, there have been times when she's had an extra bath, or quick shower in a given week, if she's needed it. |
I bathe once a week and use baby wipes to wash her feet and then a wet cloth to wash her privates. |
I bathe once a week to 10 days. Joey doesnt get smelly though. Maybe you should talk to your vet about that because Carley does get smelly and I have to wash her with ketochlor shampoo and selsun blue weekly. Its a bacterial thing shes going going on her skin and it causes her to smell. |
Does bathing them once a week dry their skin out? I've been giving Mia a bath every other week and using a foam shampoo once a week that can be put on dry hair. |

Rule of thumb is once a week but since our dog is outdoor trained sometimes a bath is needed sooner so he gets it. I would just play it by your own rules. Find a quality shampoo and use luke warm water and you shouldn't have too big a problem with the skin drying out. |
Sorry to hijack your thread, at what age can puppies be given baths? |
Yea I'm a hairstylist so I insisted on buying Mia professional dog shampoo hah. I just remember growing up with our Shih Zuh and we never gave her a bath...maybe like once every 2 months! |
I just took my baby to the groomer for the first time since I've had her. I've never owned a yorkie before so I really don't know much about grooming, etc. I was bathing her almost every week, because her hair looked so dirty and greasy but not necessarily stinky. The groomer said she doesn't need to be bathed every week and they are not like humans who need to bathe as often. I didn't ask how often I should bathe.....If not a week, then how long? A month? |

I give Gracie a bath once a week with the Yorkie Splash products. Many of the people here use all natural products on their dogs so it is not harmful to the skin or coat. I think Isle of Dogs is all natural so it should not be harmful to your dog. I would wonder what is causing the smell though. |
During the cold months when we need to heat the house, I only give the girls a bath twice a month. I use #1 All Systems shampoo and conditioner. I wash their face and feet every morning. This keep any of them from getting a bit smelly. |
I am new to this but I groom Lily-Jo daily which includes teeth brushing, tear washing, brushing & privates cleaned with wipes. I've only given her 1 full bath when she got stinky but I've washed her privates a few times a week in the sink with oatmeal puppy shampoo. She's an inside pottier so I think that helps too. |
