Update... Sammy is still in pain, the doctors are managing it. He is feeling sad today and his face is swollen, no doubt from the surgery ...not sure if Tracy has eaten, will update when I hear more. |
Thanks for the update. Keeping them all in my prayers. I hope Tracy can eat a little to keep up her strength. |
Hi everyone, Sam is sleep for a few so I wanted to try and see if I could post right quick. Thank you all so much for your prayers and strength. Sam has had even his nurses crying :(. He is now on a heavy dose of morphine every 3 hrs and lortab in between if he needs it for break through pain and a longgggg list of other meds. But I think we are finally getting his pain under control. Earlier he mumbled about someone hurting him and I said who hurt you baby? He said God. My sister and my daughter broke down. I had tears running down my face but I nearly lost it! It's just soooo hard as a parent to see my baby in this kind of pain, I just wish I could do it for him. Surgery was very long, a little longer than expected he was put under at 7:45 and came out of surgery a little after 2 PM. They removed a piece on the bone at the base of his skull and also a piece of the top vertebrate of his spine. They also had to open the lining covering his brain and something can't remember what it's called sorry, should have been thin, but was thick, so she had to cut away the extra thickness and then it out, then they sowed in a synthetic graft into the lining covering his brain giving it more room to expand. There is a chance that the removed bone will grow back because Samuel is still growing and so young, which would mean another decompression surgery ( what he just had). Please pray with us he has a long road to recovery but praying that the bone does not grow back. He cried so much at one point that I broke down and cried also. Sam stopped crying and gestured me down and wrapped his arm around my neck and patted my shoulder and told me "mommy no cry" and we stayed that way neither of us crying because we didn't want to upset the other until his meds kicked in and he fell asleep. I looked up to see everyone in the room silently watching and crying including nurses and techs. Samuel is truly my hero and I KNOW he is a BLESSED child! |
Keeping you all in my prayers. |
I have been praying for you and your special little boy. I hope that Sam heals quickly and that he is free from the pain that he is feeling. Your story about Samuel has really touched my heart. Please try to take care of yourself, too, Traci. |
That poor baby :( having bone cut out and thinned or shaved as they sometimes call it is the worse kind of pain, I can not even begin to explain how bad that pain is!! It's nothing like having screws and pins in so I know what that poor baby is going thru :( |
I am keeping Samuel, you and your family in my prayers. |
I hope that his pain will be less. And that the area does not close. Good thoughts and wishes to you both |
Tracy, I'm just now seeing this, as I've been traveling. My son has been through two recent brain surgeries, so I do know exactly what you and Sammy are going through right now. The Lord will be faithful. He did not bring Sammy this far to leave him now. What a wonderful testimony that little boy is going to have some day. I'll be praying for you both. Please try to take care of yourself. Hugs |

Praying praying praying that the God helps these meds ease Samuel's pain. I hope you are getting some rest when he's able to get some. He needs you healthy. Please make sure you are eating, Tracy. Hugs! |
Thank you all on behalf of Tracy and her family. Here is the latest update she just sent me: Was just about to txt you and ask that you have everybody pray. One of the biggest concerns would be infection. SAMs temp has been normal till a little while ago and now it's going up 99.9 still low grade but nurse is watching it close and doctor said if it gets to 101 we will start Tylenol and trying to see what's the cause. They are also now trying to move him every 2 hrs he has a bad cough from the ventilator and are concerned about the risk of pneumonia. I just feel overwhelmed. He screams and cries when we have to move his head and neck. Thankfully he is sleep again right now. Your helping me more than you know by just letting me tell you all that's going on! Thank you and I love you more than words can say! Please continue the prayers. Thank you all! |
Thanks for the update, Morgan. Not surprised there is some fever but hopefully his antibiotic cover will kill it off soon and bring that fever back down in the next day or so. Bless this poor child's heart that he is having such a terrible time and his mother has to sit there and watch it all. I sure do hope that she feels all of our prayers and hopes for Samuel's recovery coming at him and can feel a little boost. Wish there were more that we could manage to do help in more ways as most of us her are "fixers". Maybe when he is out of the hospital and back home, we can do something really nice for Samuel while he is still on the mend. May God hold that baby close tonight and breathe for him and pneumonia won't stand a chance. |
Thank you Jeanie! Your thoughts and prayers mean so much to Tracy and sweet Sammy. |
Thanks for the update. Sending prayers |

Thank you for keeping us updated, Morgan. I am praying for Samuel and his family. |
Thank you for the regular updates on little Samuel. I have little Samuel, Tracy and Mark in my thoughts and prayers. I know how devestating it is to have a baby in pain. Praying for a quick upturn in his recovery and that the medical team treating him is able to reduce his pain level to "tolerable". It sounds like litte Samuel and Tracy are an incredible Mom/Son team. Keep up the good work - both of you. Tracy - please take care of yourself and don't forget to eat and get what sleep you can - your little dude needs you healthy and well-rested. |
Still praying. Praying that God will hold His healing hand on Samuel and take away the fever and any infection. Praying for his pain to be relieved. What a brave little boy!! |
Thank you for the updates. I am wanting his 'turnaround' to be soon so his feet are planted firmly on the road to a speedy recovery. {{{Hugs}}} |
Sending prayers for Samuel and his family. |
