Any Yorkie that likes a good party is a friend to me! |
The parti yorkie reminds me of horses. The quarter horse has color standards and horses born with large white spots where not allowed to be registered. Some people loved their horses markings so decided to create their own registry for those with color faults. Now you have quarter horses and paint horses both the same type of horse except for color markings. Quarter horses still throw foals with color faults and paints throw some solid. Just like some dog breeds not wise to breed paint to paint due to white gene possible outcome which can be fatal. I wonder if the brewers will end up having this same problem? |
Deliberate breeding of dogs that carry a defective gene that may cause health defects, is not ethical, moral,or responsible, in my opinion. We are talking animals here. They breed by instinct. If we put a male and female together and she is in heat, most likely they will breed. Human decision and choice create the match. It then is human responsibility to care for the pups from this unnatural selection. I could not kill puppies that were born defective because I chose to risk breeding two dogs that should never be bred together ! How insane is that. Even though I have a great respect for animal instinct. When a mother rejects a certain puppy, it is very hard to just let it be. I know I have bottle fed pups and sometimes it turned out ok. But, most of the time the puppy dies, mother dog sensed something was not right. But like Yorkiemom1 I just have to do something ! It was my actions that brought this little being into the world. |

I'd be very hesitant to get a Biewer...the gene pool is bottlenecked. While many beleive in line breeding, many who beleive in this also admit issues arrise: neurological etc which result in both behavioral & medical health decline. I have a totally out of standard yorkie who came from a breeder who apparently 20 years ago was reguarded highly among her peers for her line...she admitted line breeding in my dogs generation the breeder says he's the only one but I've talked with 14the others...our dogs have an array of neurological issues...generations beyond as many were sold to other breeders have only resulted in worse & further decline, in fact many of the pups never survived whelping. |
I think partis and Biewers are so gorgeous. I agree with Greenwood in that they are essentially the same. I have a parti, she is just a sweetheart! That said, I never want to discount the concerns that YTCA and its breeders have about the partis and biewers. It is well within their interest and goals to be concerned, and I very much understand their push back. My hope is that someday, YTCA can arrive at a point where they can feel they are both protecting their interests and the Yorkie breed, while also allowing for the changes that are already here. Then again, if they want to maintain a stance against multi-colors, I feel that is their rightful prerogative too. |

I'm glad to read you help the pups that Momma rejects and that you take such responsibility for your actions - that's exactly what I like to read about breeders :). It shows a lot about your core beliefs. |
