Amy is getting spayed this Thursday We take her in at 7:30 in the morning and get her back on Friday afternoon anywhere from 2 to 4. Blood work will be done Thursday before she is done and the results will be read by the vet. She will be monitored that day and through the night. They have someone that comes in during the evening hours to check on any of the animals that have been operated on for anything. They will make sure she is eating and drinking water and going potty. They told me to bring anything of hers that I want to make her more comfortable but do not want us to come and see her until it is time to pick her up. They don't want her to get excited and break open the stitches. If for some reason she starts biting at the stitches she will come home with a cone. I am so nervous now I don't know what I will be like by Friday. They will call as soon as they are done with the spaying. She will also be micro chipped at the same time and if any teeth need to be pulled it will be done also. Tomorrow (Tuesday) I am having her groomed Tuesday so she will look pretty for them. I know I rambled but couldn't help myself. I do that when I am nervous. |

Aw I’m sure Amy will do just fine. I wonder why they want her to spend the night? I was able to pick Peanut up the same day- He went in about 7:30 and I picked him up about 6pm. I guess as long as they have someone checking on her- she will be fine, she will probably sleep through the night anyhow. I will be sending positive waves and sending prayers for your sweet baby! |

We all understand the nerves because we've all been there. Amy will be in good hand, though. Remember that. Your vet has done this soooo many times. How many teeth will she need pulled, do you know ? |

I remember the nervousness all to well. I had mine groomed a few days before also. Both of mine came thru with flying colors. Max was a little more of a baby about it than Abby - which is odd since her surgery was so much more invasive. I picked both of mine up the same day of the surgery - my vet does not have overnight services. I took several days off of work with each of mine just to make sure they were okay (well, let's not kid, it was for my piece of mind!). Neither of mine needed the cone - they glued the outside of the incision and used stitches that dissolved for the inside ones. Abby did not even seem to have any interest in her incision. Max cleaned his from time to time. (A little licking is okay.) I did not let mine on the furniture after the surgery - I put an exercise mat on the floor and sat on the floor with them for a few days. (My butt was flat and numb by the time they were up and running as usual.) Don't know if your vet is small or large - mine is a smaller practice and I asked the tech to text me a few photos of each of babies after their surgeries - got photos of them before surgery (with their heated blankets) and then after woke up. Little glassy stoned eyes were so cute. (They were more than happy to send a few pics since it stopped me from calling every few hours for updates.) All of your concerns are valid and you will get nothing but support here. |

They keep little ones over night to just be sure hey will be fine. That made me feel better and that someone will go in there in the evening and during the night to be sure she is ok. She weighs 5lb2oz but there she weighs 5lb 4oz. Will ask about what kind of stitches they use. It is a bigger practice that is in 3 towns that are sort of close together but the same vet is always at the one I take her to. I like them a whole lot because as soon as we come in the door all the reception people and nurses come to see her and pet her. I will ask if someone could send me pictures of her through the day. That is a great idea. Thanks AbbyMax |

Thursday is the big day for Amy. Have her blanket and a toy ready to take down with her. Have a few more questions for them and did ask about them taking a picture of her when she wakes up and later in the day and they said they would and email it to me. Talked to the girl that will be in there with the vet and said it only takes about a half hour. Now tomorrow all I will do is worry until I hear from them. Got her groomed Tuesday and looks like a completely different dog. They shaved her and got all the mats out but I don't like the way she looks but the hair will grow back and she will be groomed at least once a month and I will hog tye her and trial and get her brushed all over even if she hates me afterwards. |

Prayers going out for Amy for her spay surgery. |

We're all nervous and scared when we walk out of the vet's door after leaving our baby to be spayed/neutered and you can't help it even when you know how many times the procedures are done safely every single day all over this world. You'd prob. be a terrible mom if you didn't have that pang of fear as you kiss them goodbye and leave. But you know how safe the procedure is and how much trouble it can save a little female dog to not have to chance pregnancy ever or to have to deal with wearing those bitch britches for days each year and the medical risks of mammary cancer. But we understand your anxiety and worry. Just know we're all with you and many of us will be praying for her. |

3 Attachment(s) Amy came through the spaying great. Vet called and said everything went perfect and checked her knees and they were fine and no problems anywhere. Got mirco chipped also. Get to pick her up tomorrow at 1:30 and I can't wait. She will get a new toy for being a good girl. They sent me pictures of her after she woke up and hope they come through on this post. Thanks for everyone's caring about her. Husband and I were nervous until he called. Even asked the husband if I threw the ball if he would bring it back to me but he said no. Asked an hour later and the answer was still no. Spoil sport. |

Glad that all went well with Amy's surgery today. I have been watching your post - we take Izzy in on February 4 for spaying and microchip and she will stay overnight also. I am not fond of the idea, but I know it will be best for her. Amy is a cutie! I cannot believe your hubby would not play fetch with you :D |
