Teacups!
 
I was at petsmart today picking up some food for Joey, and looking for a tux for the ball :)
Well a lady that works there approached me (I didnt have Joey because I knew I needed to go to other stores that were not pet friendly), and asked mme about what kind of dog I have and blah blah blah...and I told her a biewer yorkie and then proceeded to tell her about him since she'd never heard of them.
THEN...she tells me she has a "teacup yorkie" and that she saved it when her mothers friend passed away.
I didnt know what to say so I just nodded...
What am I supposed to say? I mean, there isnt such thing as a teacup, and she works at a pet store so she should learn at least a little about the breeds of dogs SHE owns..:eek:

Ive never seen her there before, so I think shes new...
Theyre the only place Ive found that sells the food we use.

I was wondering the same thing.honestly I want to say here's your sign lol. I usually just nod unless I get to know them first. You could print something out explaining the breed and keep it in your bag in case you see her again.

Joey used to be a teacup, now hes turning into a teapot! Little chubber!

That is so sweet of her to save her mother's friend's yorkie teacup. Being British, I just love tea cups, especially when they're filled with Tetley Tea! I've never inherited a yorkie teacup, but I do have quite a nice collection of quality bone china teacups :D

If I ever did get a yorkie teacup...I'd think I'd pick this one!

I have to try to remember that to John Q Citizen, "teacup" is nothing but a term of size, and NOT a very accurate size indicator! What I consider "teacup" size may be a lot smaller than what YOU consider a "teacup" size yorkie. We just need to contnue to explane teacup is not actually a denotation of a specific size in a Yorkie. Schnauzers and poodles come with these distinct size classifications.... The first thing out of my mouth when anyone says "do you have teacup size yorkies?", I breed to comply with the breed standard. Occasionally, I will get "throw backs" that go OVER the breed standard of 7 lbs....and I also occasionally will get tiny little runts that I know will be underweight when mature....these babies are kept by me or go to homes that are longtime Yorkie owners and are thoroughly knowledgable with the frailities of these tny babies.....".

Joey is 5.5-6lbs and he is small, but I do feel like hes sturdy and since we have been going on longer walks lately hes getting more muscle. I could not handle a tiny one. The employee said hers was 3lbs.

I spent some time in England, when I was very young...gotta have my 'cuppa' or I can't function. I have a collection of teacups as well, my most treasured is one that belonged to my grandmother...gold embossed! It was brought from Jamaica to me here in Canada...my mother's words to me....I got it here, now its on you, just make sure you dont break it! Gee thanks mom! It sits waaaaaay in the back of my buffet...I'm afraid to touch the thing! How she got it here in her suitcase is unknown....would love a yorkie teacup...where did you find that one?? Even a yorkie mug would do...

Since most people are clueless about the word teacup (until I found this site, I was), I would have just asked what her yorkie weighed and also congratulated her on rescuing it. If I thought her answer to the weight was worrisome, I may have offered advice or something but other than that, I'd just nod.

I did mention I was on yorkie talk because she approached me while I was looking for a tux for the ball :)

Oh wow. So that is actually what the people who use "teacup" say..."3lbs and under". Is it an adult or still growing?

I probably would've cautioned to always pay attention to any different behaviors and keep her vet checked regularly since a under-sized yorkie can tend to have health issues. I dunno..I hope I would've done that anyway...
