Teeth low down and bone q's I need the teeth low down. Besides tooth paste and water additives what do you use on your dogs teeth? The vet said the best chews are ones that you can bend and indent with your nail does any one use any chews like this and what type are they? Are nylabones a good choice and which one if so? Callie has to chew on something and we are thinking one bully stick a week after we talk to the vet dentist about it at her check up in two weeks. Callie is a big bone chewer and needs something to chew on or she gets board and only wants to sleep. |
Im not sure , but this post kind of made me think of the dentastick commercials where the dogs have "doggy dentures" LOL |
Jackson is the same. He NEEDS something to chew on at least two-three nights a week. Or he'll drive me crazy. That vet dentist told me the same thing... but I asked her specifically about bully sticks, and she said they should be fine. She warned me against hard nylabones and antlers. I think we waited a week or two before giving him anything though. His mouth was definitely sore the first week. He gets a 'Get Naked' chew at night every night (but they last him all of 2 mins, LOL). But they're similar to Dentastix except a bit harder, and healthier. He loves them. But they are not a keep busy chew at all. Just a nightly snack. |
Mandie chews on nylabones and also on some rubber toys. She loves bullysticks but doesn't get them as often as she'd like lol. Her favorite chew toy is her brother's back legs, though. hehe I brush her teeth with coconut oil. |

We use the get naked treats as well! The girls love them. :) |
Huey's daddy buys him the Butcher Shoppe smoked dog bones at Publix. He always gets him the huge ones and they last for months. He gets a new one several times a year and we throw away the old one. (Somehow he has managed to keep 3 at the same time because I found them buried under the pad in his crate) |

As far as the chews go that is another advantage of the things like bully sticks. As they chew on the stick it gets soft enough for them to get their teeth into and it helps to scrape the stuff off their teeth. |
Here is a pic of Benny my chihuahua with a bully stick. All three of my guys love them. I call them crack sticks, LOL. Jack's favorite are the spiral ones. http://i894.photobucket.com/albums/a...386695181b.jpg |
