Jan, my Sugar was( in my opinion) destined to be an only dog. She HATED other dogs! Growled and snapped and hid around them until she really got to know them. I really WANTED another dog. But I was scared to death!! Jadabug contacted me when I was on vacation in Belize and told me she found the perfect pup for me. I fell in love at first sight!! But I was still scared out of my mind. What if sugar hated her? What If sugar hated ME? What if I didn't like having 2? Long story short.... Sugar and Curri became sisters almost instantly. I know this isn't typical. But they complete each other. Sugar was 5 1/2 and Curri was 6 months old. They are rarely more than 3" ( yes INCHES) away from each other...... If you want another dog.... I say go for it. Mrs B might be wondering what took you so damn long :D |
I think that the best indicator is how your current dog is around other dogs. I do know that many find that bringing in a younger dog with the senior dog, rejuvenates the older dog. As you are not dealing with un-neutered dogs I won't give advise vs a vs that arena. And last I suppose I am more inclined to male/female pairs in the hopes of avoiding and problems. Two female Yorkies - I have heard ,but again especially with un-spayed gals can have some problems. |

Thank you Lisa. Mrs. Beasley is ok with the dogs she is around - after she warms up to them. She is in good health and I think she would enjoy the company. (Well as long as she gets to sit closest to Momma) |

I am thinking Mrs. Beasley will adjust. She fusses at my husbands Bloodhound, Lowa. But she also loves going outside and playing with her. She just doesn't want me to pet Lowa. Now I can pet Lowa and sweet talk Mrs. B and shelf fine. LOL |
I have two females...Jersey is 6mths and Raelle will be 2 in March. They have their spats, but on the whole they get along well. The only real problem I had was Jersey unpotty training Raelle ! We had to start all over again with all three pups!! Jersey figured out if I didn't find a puddle all was well...she and Raelle were using my couch as a potty...so now no pup is allowed up on the couch unless invited and I could keep an eagle eye on both! Orion still goes potty only outside, thank goodnes for that! They all play together albeit rough at times, and keep each other company. It took about a month for Raelle to accept that Jersey was here to stay...Orion, it was love at first sight... Yorkies for me, you can never have just one...after Raelle, I had to have another, and another...trying to convince fiance to let me get a fourth! LOL! |

Sugar has been barking in the middle of the night. It's her I NEED HELP bark. Of course I get up to check on her, which causes Curri to follow me...... As soon as Curri is out of the bed Sugar races as fast as she can and lays right next to my spot- effectively blocking Curri  she always forgets that Curri isn't afraid to lay directly ON TOP of Sugar...... |
I guess you know your dog the best and how well she gets along with other dogs. Some older dogs will perk up when a younger one is around while others can't take the change. They all have their particular personalities and habits. |
