Thanks Teresiana, will try the cotton ball trick. I am also afraid of doing anything around her eyes. My husband is always wanting to trim her hair around them and I cringe when he does it. We need to find some smaller scissors then what he is using. Watch out Amy, Mommy's going to get you today. |
We use the round-ended baby scissors for that job....and always do it after a nice long run! ;) Sally + Harry x |
Thanks Harrysmum. Never though of the round ended baby scissors. Going to send him today to get a pair. Well maybe not today since it is the day before Christmas but this week for sure. Maybe I won't be so frightened when he does the trimming and maybe she won't have that petrified look in her eyes either. This is the most helpful forum ever. |

I trim the red hairs from the tear stains to keep it from spreading. They're actually red yeast that thrives in moist places, so it's very important to keep it dry. It's very important to eliminate any 'sugary' foods in their diet, as that is food for the yeast. Eating These Foods Can Cause Dog Yeast Infection In the YT sister site (MT), many people believe that avoiding tomato pomace & beet pulp in dog food works wonders. |
Thanks mimimomo, just ordered the MINI BLUNT NOSED SCISSOR and a comb and toy from you. That pair of scissors looks perfect. Will come through paypal to you. |

I've been giving our Graysee Angels' Eyes, as well as distilled water with ACV for about three months now, and STILL see no improvement in the quantity/frequency of her tear stains. I often have to clean her eyes DAILY to keep the crud from forming. I have found that the powder from Eye Envy tends to mitigate the stains a little. I have to be very careful about placing that near her eyes, though, as it does contain boric acid, and that could burn a little if she got any into her eyes. I will stick with the Angels' Eyes until the bottle is empty, but if it doesn't result in any significant improvement, this will be the first and LAST bottle that I purchase! :( |
Piccolo used to have tear stains, but no longer. (And she is a blondie, so it can really show up quickly.) We tried some other stuff, but here is how we got rid of it...First I had her hair trimmed around her eyes and let it grow out all over again. Now I pat her eyes twice a day with a wet washcloth and pick out any dry stuff. As long as I keep up with this, she has no stains. Hope you figure out something that works for you. |
