Trupanion only pays out 90% (80% at a specialist) and they don't cover Exam Fees.... which really isn't bad unless you have something like I had where most of the bill was the exam. The account I have set up is for Emergency only... just as his health insurance would be... really in Hopes that I will never have to use it. I have everything automatically put in there. I don't even look at it and have No Idea what is in it. I just went and looked at it and since February, there is already $1,509.47 in it. That is Minus the $172.00 ER Visit. I also have to say I also have a separate credit card set aside, as well. The guy at the bank was joking me about the account and the card and I told him I was going to have Riley's name put on it!! I know for some people it really is Great!! Each person should definitely do their research and read all of the fine print, etc. That is what I did, and even though I had always heard more horror stories rather than good stories.... It was always my intention to do the insurance for at least the first couple of years. I got him insured the day I brought him home.... once he got to be a couple of years old, and we got a couple of yearly exams out of the way, I reevaluated and decided to do what I am doing, now. |
we have a saving account just for the pets :) |
I had Trupanion and liked it but they upped me from $30+ to $50 + per month on the first year. Are they nuts? Now I have Pet Plan and I have used them twice this year. No problem except it takes one month to be reimbursed. I see many of you have savings accounts for your vet bills but I recall one lady on here using up all her $$ before her dog passed and needed help paying the remainder of the bills. I just don't want to take a chance of having a giant bill and having to pay it out of my pocket. My Gina racked up a $5000.00 bill in 5 days and still passed away. Zoey has insurance and I will keep it. |
