You will find that much of the general pubic seems to feel they are experts on what size a Yorkie should be and what it should look like. There are so many people breeding Yorkies without regard to the breed standard that there are many sizes and types of Yorkies out there. Not many of them are actually representative of the breed though. If someone starts to tell you what your Yorkie should look like or what size it should be just ask them if they have ever read the breed standard. Kyra was dark like your puppy as a baby and at a year old still is very dark. Its hard to say. |
sizing/classification/traveling I have also been educated on a way that indicates there is no "teacup" yorkie. They are a toy breed. I have had just one suprise out of four litters that turned out to look like a yorkie on steroids compared to my one pound usual size. Baby Belle tipped the scales at six pounds!. I jave also had a variety of very short legs and longer legs which makes a huge difference in how people perceive them. Lordy, please tell me when you ship one of these precious things you fly with and carry it in cabin? The only way to do it and amke sure there are no problems with hypoglycemia! Best of luck! |
Hi, my baby is 9 months old. Weighed 1.72 at 10 weeks. And is now around 5.8 lbs. She's perfect just the way she is! Love her to death! But she can be a little sneaky at times! |

When the name "teacup" is used to describe a yorkie it makes me so angry that these breeders are deliberatly misleading people to hike up the price of a puppy sammi was tiny when he was born he was the smallest of his litter he weighs 5.5lbs the breeder i bought sammi from did not use the name "teacup" as he knew they dont exsist just enjoy your adoable lil man he is soooooo cute :D |
At 9 months you pup still has some growing to do. It's hard to say how much though. It is all about what his genetic make up is. |
I hope some people have read that it was NOT the breeder that called the puppy teacup, but OTHER people upon seeing her puppy. The breeder never said more than the puppy was a TOY, which is accurate and correct. I realize there is some knee jerk reactions to the label teacup, but in this instant, there is a lot of ire seemingly directed at someone that doesn't deserve it. OP, enjoy your puppy. You were told that by some people because they don't know any better. It's not their fault, they have been taught that little dogs = teacups regardless of breed, and have no reason to think differently. Now you know that if someone asks you if your puppy is a teacup, you can tell them in yorkies, there is no such thing, and that it's just a term used by breeders that are more focused on size, which can be detrimental to the puppy. By educating them in this small way, it may open their eyes to the sellers of these dogs, and should they begin to look into the breed themselves, they know what to look for and what should send a red flag. |
