Hi and welcome to YT. I agree that canned pumpkin works but my 2 fears with a puppy are: it could be something more serious than just an upset tummy, or your puppy may get dehydrated. If at all possible may a trip to the vet sooner may help good luck, and i hope he is feeling better soon |
Yorkie not eating Thanks for all the replies. I wouldn't have waited till the 21st if it persisted. Luckily it only lasted 24 hours and he is eating again and was always drinking. I think I spoiled him on the moist puppy food, although he does eat the dry Science Diet for puppies <1 year for small or toy puppies. I prefer he eat the dry food which he does pick at as I see it going down. Thanks again all. |
When your pup has loose stools you always want to eliminate the wet food first. Most people feed canned food because their dog does not like the dry food by it's self. You may want to look into a good quality grain free food. Some of the most common foods contain so many fillers that some dogs just don't want to eat them. |
Any suggestions as what may be good? I hear people talking about Blue, Is that one of them? |
We feed Tigger a mixture of Halo's Spot Stew (Small Breed) and Vital Essentials Freeze-Dried Sprinkles. He has a hard time with just hard food, so we mix them together and he really seems to enjoy it. |
I would not mess around with trying to solve the diarrhea myself, your baby is small just take him to the vet to ensure he doesn't have giardia or some other intestinal problem. |
There are many opinions about dog foods. I feed a frozen grain free raw dog food. Here is a link to a site that lists ingredients and rates foods. You can decide for yourself what is best for your dog. At least see what is in the foods and decide what ingredients are helpful and which ones are not. You don't have to agree with the ratings but knowing what is in the foods is a start. Best Dry Grain Free Dog Foods |

I feed her Taste of the Wild but she has had Blue Buffalo, too. When she gets picky about not wanting to eat (which is super rare..she's my little piggie lol), I drizzle just a bit of chicken broth over the kibble (I don't make it mushy, just a light drizzle). Works like a charm here. :) |
That's a great idea! Is the chicken broth fine for puppies too? Gracie is just not interested in kibble unless it falls out of her kong. I worry about her not eating enough. |
Science Diet is what I feed Honey. I put Cesar soft dog food on top of her hard dog food because that is the only way she will eat any hard dog food. I know some people on here dont think it is a good brand but I notice when I took honey off of her other dog food and put her on Science Diet her coat started to get silky and shinny. |

Awesome! I will try that tonight |
Thanks again. I tried Dry Food, Chicken and brown rice in a roll that Petsmart said is good, but no luck. Finally I gave in to the Ceaser (I also tried moist over dry and he just looked at me), but he didn't eat that either, so I got him, got his mouth open and put a little in. Sounds cruel, but after that he ate it all, then some rice and then some of the first food. We had a nice play time, he didn't ignore me on what I did, and he even picked at the Science Diet. I still think I spoiled him on the moist food. The breeder suggested boil a little chicken , says he loves that. Anyway it's just been a month and a half I had him so it still is adjusting to how I feed him. Anyway I love the little ankle biter, he follows me everywhere and even waits at the end of my bed when I leave the room for a few minutes. Ok I rambled enough, I read some other posts and I am glad I found you guys! Thanks once again. ;) Oh, when will my puppy's pic appear like everyone else? I know it's the wrong topis just asking. |
Please read the ingredient lists on your foods. Ceasar is one of the lowest grade foods on the market. Many of the dry foods are mostly grain like corn and rice which is why most many dogs do not want to eat them. You won't find a high grade dog food in the grocery store or department store. |
