A hair dryer?
Okay so this pup of mine goes face to face with my horse whenever she gets a chance, she rolls with the biggest dogs on occasion. And isn't afraid of any person. But she is afraid of the hair dryer. I mean terrified of it. She shook for five minutes in my arms after I tried to show it to her after her bath...and it was set on low. You would think I tried to water board her...has anyone else ever tired to blow dry their dog? My old dogs loved the blow dryer.

LOL Yeah big scary monster:laugh: Mine both don't like it much, but when it's chilly and they're wet, they seem to not mind as much. Mine is pretty quiet as far as blowdryers go, so maybe that's why they're not so scared. NOW the blender, that's a different story:D

The only other thing she seems afraid of is the vacuum, but even that isn't as scary as a blow dryer.

Have you ever taken her to a groomer? Sometimes they stick the dogs in a cage and hang a dryer on it to blow them dry. That would be enough to scare any puppy for a life time. If she has never had a bad experience with a dryer then it's going to be slow going. Maybe just leave it on the floor where she will have to walk over it or be near it from time to time. When she gets accustomed to it while it is off then occasionally turn it on when she is not too close. Letting her watch when your other dogs get blown dry might help, too. Puppies that are just experiencing new things can get freaked out easily especially if it is something they were not expecting, like a vacuum.

I had a kitten that was playing in the bath tub once when I decided to run the vacuum in there. I didn't see him behind the curtain and the sound was really loud because we have stone floors in there. He freaked out and was kind of trapped in there for a few seconds. He is still very scared when he hears loud noises.

Amirah has never seen a groomer yet. That was part of the reason I wanted to blow dry her. I thought once I did take her to one they might use them. So I wanted to get her used to it.

I would hold off on the groomer visit then, until she is a bit braver. Unless the groomer would let you bring her just for a trim and no bath and blow dry. A good groomer should be fine doing that.

I know mine absolutely despise the dryer, but do better with the groomer's mini blower.

I'm going to invest in one, it takes foecer to towel dry, cold air on low with dryer and the towel again.

Mocha's the same, she's not afraid of big dogs at all, but when it comes to vacuum cleaners, hair dryers or anything that makes a noise similar to that, she will go running. Over the years, she's grown accustomed to the hair dryer and has accepted that it's something that needs to be dealt with; she still flinches when we bring it out, but she no longer runs from it because she knows resistance is futile. ;)

The funny thing is, she's afraid of the dryer, and only the dryer, not the person actually using it. If you're holding the dryer, she will inch closer and curl up right against you, like "protect me from the dryer, mommy".

Buster loves to stick his head out the car window and have the wind blowing on his face but he also afraid of the dryer. I put a diffuser on my blowdryer and he is calmer about it, not thrilled, but much better than without it.

You might try desensitizing her to the blow dryer by bringing it around at a time you're not using it on her. If she's afraid at the sight of it, keep it off. See how she reacts. If there's fear, put it a little farther away. As soon as you get to a level she tolerates, treat and say good girl.

The idea is to slowly build up how much she'll tolerate. Bring it closer. Treat, treat, treat if she doesn't freak out. Once she improves, put her in the bathroom and turn the blow dryer on low on the other side of the room. Treat when she relaxes enough to take the treat. Try to distract her by doing tricks or playing with a toy while the blow dryer is on.

Keep building up how much you want her to tolerate. If she has a setback, go back to the last stage.

When you do use it on her after a bath, bring out the best treats you can find. If she'll take the treats while you're using the blow dryer on there, you've got it beat. She may never like it, but she should be able to tolerate it.

How funny. It is definitely interesting to figure out the things that scare them... Luckily my two enjoy being blow dried.

Gracie never minded the dryer but when I bought some electric clippers to trim her ears and feet with she freaked out! She had been to the groomer and was fine there so I don't know why she was so crazy about the ones I purchased. Maybe they were louder than the ones she is used to?:confused: It took a lot of time to get her to the point where she would let me near her with them. Much like Alaskayorkie describes. I moved very slow. I would let her sniff them while turned off and then turn it on occasionally. I even pretended to trim one of her favorite toys with it. I had never seen her be really afraid of anything before those clippers showed up!:confused:

I agree and my groomer allows that and charges less since she doesn't have to bathe and dry him. Georgie isn't a fan of the hair dryer either.

Poor little thing. Callie lays down and loves it but used to not be a big fan of me doing her head even though I would do it from behind so it wouldn't blow in her face and she would turn around and give me an awful glare lol. My moms dog takes off if he hears it. Maybe give her treats while your doing it.

Mine attacks the dryer, even if I am trying to dry my hair he tries to climb up your legs to get to it!! It is pointless trying to use it on him because he is too busy trying to bite it.
My Roomba he likes to turn on and ride or chase... And somehow he is smart enough to have accidents in front of where it charges then turn it on to clean up the mess... Nothing better then coming home to brown tire marks all over your white tile.
BUT if the steam vac comes out the closet he is gone hiding under the covers in bed.

:D Harry's WEIRD!!!! He love love loves the hairdryer....even when I'm drying my own hair he comes and nudges up to me to get a blast....:confused: :D

What he didn't like though, was when I got a new hairdryer - it was quieter and it took a while for him to get used to it - strange little boy! :) Sally + Harry x

Guinney LOVES the AC vent in the truck when we get in before he is buckled in you have to turn on the AC full blast so he can stick his face right up to the vent and lick the air.

LOL I can only imagine, he must look adorable riding and chasing after the Roomba.

The first 5 to 10 mins are.... After that the noise of him growling and barking and it going starts to get to you :rolleyes:

Here's Luma the first time we ever tried blowdrying her...LOL. I had to stop because sometimes she'll feel it in her ears and it freaks her out, and she falls over in the sink.

Turn your volume down, it's not a quiet hairdryer.

It was the State of AZ verses Tiffaney Adkins a criminal case based on the new laws in acted Aggressive Dog owner Responsibility Laws. She plea bargained out of the charges regarding the fact that her dogs dug into my yard and killed my 2 female Yorkies (proven Breeders) with settlement for Restitution.

I am the victim and was attacked trying to save my Yorkies. I am asking you to provide me with a price to purchase two of your registered teacup Yorkies of breeding age. I know that anyone who loves their Yorkies would not sell a 2 year old proven breeding dog. But since the issue is putting a price on the heads of my poor murdered Girls. As if it was not bad enough to witness them being slaughtered now I have to fight for what they were worth.

I do not know any other way to get some sort of actual proof of their worth but through direct communication with actual breeders of quality Yorkies. This may be my only chance of having the appeal thrown out of court. This girl needs to just pay for her criminal act so I can move on.

If you could please provide me a simple e-mail with a price of what you would sell such a Yorkie weighing about 5 pounds plus shipping costs to Kingman AZ 86409 to me I would be so grateful. Piccinino1@gmail.com

OMY...the Roomba!!!!

LoL mine ran my toe over once- safty shut off my bottom...my sock got sucked into it before I could shut it off and burned out the motor!

Months of hassel of Roomba offering to send me replacement motor parts...nonsense!

I don't blame Guinness for having accidents by it! Scared the tinkle out if me!

Haha... Mine goes through hell because of that little dog!! Between him pooping and making it clean it up (or should I say smearing it into the wheels, brushes and spreading it around my house) and him biting it because it has ran over a toy and is dragging it around. :p

When Honey even see me pick up the dryer she tries to run the other way. She hates the dryer and I have to calm her down after im finish.

What a cutie!

That was adorable she is really good with the hairdryer. I love her little tongue.
