My moms yorkie Sammy does that to almost every fruit and veggie and its so funny because then he gets hyper like ok give me more that I can make you pick up lol

I guess I will be going to the store and getting fruit today. Thanks everyone. Does anyone know of any other good treats your yorkie loves? I guess I will not be buying treats out of the store anymore.

Plain yogurt or cottage cheese (both about a tbs), apple with a dab of low fat peanut butter , mine LOVE cooked, cubed butternut squash, frozen cubes of pure pumpkin purée, boiled chicken or turkey , etc. frozen green beans, cubes of frozen mango or blueberries or a bit of boiled or scrambled egg white.

Make sure snacks are snack sized and not meal sized.

Most of the chain pet stores and department stores sell mass marketed packaged junk food for pets. Especially in the treat department. Read the ingredient lists. They usually use a bunch of creep ingredients and try to make it look like real food. Tons of preservatives and other bad ingredients.

I will start trying these new treats Im sure they are much better then some of the treats I have been giving her. Iknow she seems to like the bad treats but I dont want anything that will hurt her so I will start trying fruit to see what she likes. Thanks everyone

I wonder why your vet said that, and not specifically about grapes and raisins. Pretty much all fruits except grapes and raisins are fine to give. Some dogs just have a preference of what they prefer. For instance, Uni doesn't like blueberries. I guess she can't smell the fruit through the skin? Katie would pop blueberries in her mouth like crazy.

Uni LOVES greek yogurt and cottage cheese also. Greek yogurt is good to give bc of the probiotics.

And yes I agree with sugarmamma, make sure snacks are tiny snacks, otherwise they'll be too full for a regular meal with has all the balanced nutrition they need.

I make a true 24 hour yogurt in my yogurt incubator. It is very rich in probiotics.

have you tried bananas, chester loves them the buddy biscuits come in alot of flavors chicken, peanut butter, cheddar, pumpkin and they come in grain free as well

i feel awful..ive been giving my baby boy milk bones..the little ones, that only have 5 calories..he loves them...have to find another healthier treat for training...He is sick of cheerios...

We give our dogs beggin strips. milk bone and chicken jerky to our dogs and the vet a said that it was fine. I also had a dog that was raised eating these treats and he lived to be 19 years old. We also had a beagle for almost 16 years old who was given these treats.

Most vets aren’t breed specialists, so they may not be aware of the problems Yorkies have. I think some commercially made treats are fine for most dogs if given in moderation, but many breeders state that the Yorkie's digestive system is its weakest link. It would be wise to heed this information. One attack of acute pancreatitis from too much fat, can lead to chronic pancreatitis and then you have to be careful of any food the dog has. Once the Yorkies digestive system is broken, it’s very difficult to repair!

Not an ice cub's chance in some place that starts with "H..." would I give most of what is on the shelves to my pets. I wouldn't eat those ingredients...neither will they if I have my way. Just my opinion...:p
