Thanks for the link. I looked up Buster who is with Avid and it came up as a possible AVID chip and AVID's phone number. I called and they verified my contact information. They said they do not publish personal client info on other sites and the people have to contact AVID to find the owner.

This is true, but some people don't realize they have the option.

That is exactly why I said what I did.....they will get hammered with emails from those companies telling them the subscription is over. There is no designation for lifetime....that is confusing imho.
Best to say it is lifetime...and that IF you want, you can purchase their yearly plan of extra services.
In other words: IGNORE their emails telling you that it is ending. It's a shame they do that...it's all about making money and I get that, but they mislead people.

Ok this makes sense! The site I (actually Nancy) linked is in fact a "third party" site, so I guess they don't have Avid's numbers updated. Now that I think of it, when I sent in Uni's info earlier this year I did get a confirmation letter sent to my house. There were a few typos as far as the vet's name, but nothing significant. Addresses and phones were correct.

I really hope Avid does update their site soon. I really don't like how you can't do anything online, and if you want to change certain things you have to pay a fee again. I think if you change phone numbers it's free of charge.

Good to know. I hope that is the truth and not that they are just sitting on their butts not doing anything and just taking our money.

I am sure you can call them to change things...they may have you fax it so that they know it is you.; but I cannot imagine that the only way to change is on a website.
Have you called and asked them?

No what I'm saying is you can't change anything on their website, unlike Home Again where you can. It's just nice to have the option. I don't like being on the phone period. I hate talking to strangers, it kind of gives me anxiety. I am just weird like that.

But you can change stuff by calling or faxing the, but certain changes, they charge you a fee.

I did call avid today, and they said my sonny of five years is not registered with them. I have his papers, number, tags and thought the vet took care of all this. Avid said pay $19.50 fill out registration form, then hell be in their database. Makes no sense to me to have to pay again. I didn't register with anyone because I thought vet did that.

When we have our foster implanted with a chip at the vet, the vet's can implant a chip there that you buy, or in our case, the rescue sends me one already registered to give to the vet to implant. Perhaps in your case the vet just implanted it and gave you the paperwork, and you were supposed to send in the form and payment? I doubt that vets would pay the fee for you. You just buy the actual chip from them, about $25 but you don't pay for registration through the vet. Not that I know of at least.

I'll have to call the vet tomorrow then. They never told me anything about paying for registering him. I don't get it. Pisses me off to know for the past five years my dog was never registered, and thank god he never got lost!

Oh I hear ya! I had Uni registered with the wrong company before for years! She's almost 6 and I just finally straightened it out this past January! What good is having a chip if there's no info attached to it? I think vets should be more clear and explain how these work. Clearly a lot of us don't know how it works.

After what happened with Tibbe's Home Again info in the online database and my getting a message the chip # didn't match their contact info - when it actually did and them not knowing why I got that message - and all but my contact info being wrong or missing and some of the problems you all are having, it is clear chips and chip websites, vets staffs doing their part and the whole process is far from working like clockwork in every case. It's good all these microchip-related problems are being aired and a lot of us getting things squared away. It's also a good a reminder we'll all need to check those sites and have the chips scanned from time to time just to be sure everything is as it should be.

I called them (Home Again) today because I got that message when I logged into my account! She said it is extra and that my dog is in their system in case he gets lost. She said we do not have to get the $17.99 extra package.
It is SO MISLEADING!!!!:mad: He was registered when paid for initial chipping but their site said I needed to renew our registration!

Mickey had Avid and they charged me $6 to update a phone number change. But I wanted all the info to be current. $6 for any info changes! Grrr

That is terrible that Avid does that. I have called Home Again a few times to update and change things and they were very helpful.

Our vets charged the set up registration fee when they did the chipping charge.
Mickey was w Avid and Max was Home Again. We had a new/different vet when we got Mickey.
