I consider myself an advocate of animals too but I also keep in mind owners rights.

I could be wrong, but it feels like the dog is a possession to some people, an extension of themselves. It can seem quite narcissistic. Rather than being a loyal friend and companion, yet still a DOG.



If owners doing piecing to cats are being done for it, I wonder if that could happen to those who do it to dogs.

A dog doesnt like having a topknot put in or wear clothes either and they dont have anyt choice in the matter so if piercing ears is narrcetistic these things are also. I just see it as owner choice. Do I think they see their pet as a loyal companion and not an object yes I do

Well, legally a dog is a possession. That is the very reason people are allowed to inflict pain on their "possession" in order to satisfy their own selfish ambitions. They can make an animal look foolish and laugh about it because it is entertaining to them. It's a level of narcissism that seems to be increasing in this country.
Look at the dogs that come into the shelters that were sold to people as a pocketbook pet but they grew too large. The poor dogs are just so hopeless looking. But the fashion diva doesn't want that kind of dog because it did not turn out as planned.

I think owners should have rights within reason. Loading a poor little dog up with a bow on its topknot, dress and diaper, necklace, row of ear studs down the side of one ear and booty bling with a nice double-pair of shoes and a faux fur coat isn't far off for some misguided women and we all know it. I stopped at a Pet Boutique in Forney today and they had little puppies there for sale all dressed up. Puppies. Little tiny babies hampered by clothing and big bows on their heads. One had this tight tutu of stiff net on around its soft little belly. They were talking about their "teddy bear" vs. "doll" faces and who liked what. A price of $2800.00 was quote for one "in the back"(?) and there was a little Maltese that had eye drainage and discoloration all down its face!!! I ran out of there when I realized those dogs in cages were not the workers' pets or there waiting grooming - they were selling them!

They had rows and rows of those net tutu's - all with a hard, stiff rubber covered in netting band to hold it on the dog. It itched as I touched it. I asked if dogs didn't hate having that hard squeezing band around its tummy and she said "Oh, no, they love it!" I told her my dog would roll around in the floor until he got it off him - and that's when I heard the talk about the $2800.00.

I imagine before long we will see all those nose piercings and rows of ears studs and other dog part piercings just as we see on people who go OT on their own piercings! AND YOU KNOW THERE WILL BE DO-IT-YOURSELF DOG-PIERCINGS!!! Poor dogs! Makes me sick. Once people start to treat a dog like an object or child and not an animal free to look like and be an animal and enjoy the carefree life of a dog, owners' rights start to really bug me.

I think it is a fine line between having fun dressing up your dog and going overboard. I think there are many owners that enjoy dressing up their dogs whether for warmth or cuteness, and that interaction and enjoyment can be a bonding experience between the dog and the owner. That being said some owners take it too far. When the dog is unable to move freely or is subjected to uncomfortable clothes like the tutu it is wrong in my opinion. I was at the emergency Vet and there was this small dog there that the owners had brought in because it fell and they wanted to make sure it was not hurt. The poor dog was wearing a t shirt that had big loops for the rear legs to go through that were loose and hung down touching it's feet. As the poor dog was walking around it kept lifting it's back feet and shaking them and sort of tripping over the loose loops. There was no way that dog could have walked or run normally with that t-shirt on. When I asked the owners if the dog fell because of tripping over the loops they looked at me like I was crazy. They really could not see how uncomfortable the dog was. :(
