I keep Morgan in a puppy cut but his hair grows so fast |
1 Attachment(s) Zachary had a puppy cut for his first haircut. He looked cute but looked up more like a Schnauzar. This picture is Zachary who hasn't had a haircut in 4 months so you know how short it was originally. I DO trim his bangs though to keep them out of his eyes. Pic attached is taken today, Zachary and his Japanese Chin big brother, Yumble. The longer fur on Zachary's back is straight but the short fur is nothing but curls. Zachary is about 6 - 6 1/2 pounds and Yumble is 13. Louise |
I agree with what someone else said on here that you will probably have to wait to see what "way" her hair grows. Puppy hair is always fluffy! By the way your little Amy is a doll! My Morkie has silky hair, so he takes after the yorkie in him. My mother has an all black morkie with hair traits as an maltese. Its funny to see them next to each other, you would never guess their the same type of dog! I think you will be okay either way, expect their first cut to be "off" and it will be more on point next time! I will have to find some pictures of Cruz's horrible 1st cut! :D |
Hi........my baby girl is now 8weeks and I need some grooming advice. What kind of brush, how often to brush, what shampoo, first age for cut? I'm getting here first set of shots Friday so I know or at least think she has to be up to date on shots before going to.the groomer. And I'm scared to cut the hair around her pads Cuz she's so fidgety!!!! So Yea......I need the whole nine yards on grooming til she can go to the pros.......and when the hair gets too long around her pads does it cause pain or Just discomfort? I know that's probably a silly question |

A puppycut just means the same length all over and can be any length from a #7 blade to a longer comb cut. Be VERY specific as to what you want your groomer to do. If you don't discuss everything you want done and how you want the ears and face and legs to look, your groomer will just do what she wants to do. And also be aware that if your dog has any mats next to the skin they will need to be shaved out because to brush through them would be very very painful for your puppy. Metal grooming combs are best for long haired dogs. A metal pin brush can also be used. I usually comb the tangles out first and then brush. I use the smaller 4" comb for face and legs. A 6" or 7" is good for the body. Daily coming is important for a puppy even if they don't appear to need it. They will get accustomed to being touched and handled and submit to grooming if it is done daily from the start. Here is a link to an online store that sells good combs and brushes reasonably. Amy had her distemper shot this week and will go for her bordetella next week. She is 3 months old today the 11th of Nov. She she be groomed before her rabies shot which going to be at 4 months of age or wait until she has the rabies shot? She took the distemper shot real good but that night all she did was sleep and the husband touched the area of where the shot went in and she yelped cause it was tender. The next day it was like nothing had be done. She was a trooper. |
