| feeling like a bad mom Feeling like a bad mom. We moved about two weeks ago maybe three and everything is on one level but we have a huge loft that has lots of stairs going up to them and they are not carpeted. Well Callie has been up and down a million different types of stairs with no problem ever. I bought a baby gate to block off the stairs one to keep her off the stairs and two because we are going to use that area for guests and I doubt they want Callie in all of there stuff and just in case they leave something unsafe out she can't get it. The gate was bent so we packed it back up to take back and get a new one but I didn't rush to do it because she isn't going up the stairs. Well my dad went up to take a few things up there and Callie looked at me and I said go ahead. She took off and slipped and fell down two stairs and landed on her shoulder and I thought I was going to die seeing it happen but it happening so fast you can get there in time to get her and that she was gonna be hurt bad. I picked her up and held her for a minute and then put her down to see if she was ok and her tail was up and she was walking fine and played with my dad when he came back down. I felt so bad I gave her lots of treats and love. She isn't really acting like she is hurting this morning but I still feel so bad. Gate is getting exchanged and going up tomorrow.

| You're not a bad mommy Those accidents happen. I remember one of mine falling down my stairs at the back of the house when she was a puppy. Don't be too hard on yourself. I am so glad she isn't hurt. |

| You never could have known it would happen. We lived in a home that had hardwood steps years ago. Our Shih Tzu went up and down them many times until one day while I was at work he was following my daughter up the steps after she got out of school and he slipped. He tumbled down at least 6 steps and got banged up quite a bit. We took him to the vet and he had x-rays because he was limping. Nothing broken but he was hurting for a while. After that I went out and got carpet strips to put on the steps until I could get them fully carpeted. It was an accident but now that you know you can make sure it doesn't happen again. Hope she is feeling better now. |

| Are you going to consider getting a carpet runner installed on them or will you just keep the gate there forever? I know the carpet might be expensive and you might not have planned on it, but orthopedic surgery can be expensive too...If it is only going to be used for guests and you won't be going up there then the gate should be fine. I didn't know if it is an area you might also use without guests, and if your girl is like mine then she will want to come up when you go up. Glad to hear she is okay. They really are our babies and we hate to see them hurt. |

| So not a bad mommy. This stuff happens all the time and we just learn from it and thank god she wasn't hurt. No need to worry. Geno fell down our stairs twice when he was like 4-5 months old and I immediately grabbed him and held him. He cried for like a second and then went back to playing. Meanwhile, I'm bawling like a baby over it! So you're def not the only one. Lol
