My Orion at 11.2lbs is a member of the YT teapot club...I was kinda hoping that Jersey would be around the standard...7lbs, especially since her breeder told me she was charted to be 6lbs....I know the chart isn't fool proof, but I was hoping! She is now 4 and half months and weighs exactly 5lbs...looks like the teapot club will have another member...oh well more to love! |
I need to find out how to join the teapot club Tucker is 10.8 as of last week. He is 8 months old:eek: |
Application for Membership in The YT Teapot Club Quote:
On this site, there is a Thread called... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ml#post3998911, and that was the link to it. It is a series of Posts where people submit a brief application, and if the criteria is met, the application is accepted and the Dog becomes a member of the Teapot Club. If the Member has more than one Dog who meets the criteria, a second or subsequent applications should be posted for each animal. Here is a link to the criteria for an application... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/3815164-post666.html jazzymom, We would be glad to see an application for Tucker ! msyorktown, Give Orion a BIG hug from Sneakers and Becca. :animal36 :aimeeyork |
She's adorable!:D |
Amirah's mom was seven pounds and her dad four and a half pounds my vet says if she grows over seven she would be considered over weight! Is this true? I mean I am having a hard time figuring where she is hiding five pounds. |
Amirah-momma, I certainly won't argue with the comment from your Vet, however... The situation of overweight is not based on a given poundage, but, the condition of the specific animal. MANY of our Members have Dogs which are more than 7 lbs, and as I remember, the heaviest Yorkie ever, was just over 20 lbs. Continue to heed the advice from your Vet, and as always, good diet, exercise, and a LOT of love, keeps our Fuzloves in the best of shape. |
Weight I certainly don,t want to upset any body here.Im,e sure your little dogs are adorable, but my vet told me Yorkies usually weigh around 7lbs.Reuben is 8 months now and weighs 4lbs.So i assume he,s on track. He,s still not proper house trained though.Mostly he goes on his pads, but sometimes he does,nt. |
My Daisy is 5 months and weighs 7 lb will she grow anymore? |
My vet thinks my little Amirah is at a proper weight for her age now. She is still such a spindly little thing it is hard to imagine her being fat. She is constantly on the go. |

My Orion is 14mths and weighs in at 11.2lbs., then there is my Raelle who is 5lbs. at 18mths...you just never know. |
The AKC has set a "show" standard of 3.5 to 7 lbs. This should in no way be taken as the "ideal" weight for YOUR Dog. Breeders go to a lot of trouble, keeping their dogs weights down in that range. And frequently, that type control, results in animals which are not very healthy. Just because your Dog creeps or blows by that 7 lb mark, in no way should be considered an excursion away from it's Pure Breeding. In fact, the overall direction of the Yorkshire Breed is creeping upward in weight, and subsequent size. "I" believe the reason for this is... That prospective owners, viewing a litter of Pups, will most always "see and want" the most active or gregarious. Frequently Pups demonstrated that energy by moving toward a Human, licking and jumping to get attention, with that activity paying off with a forever home for them. That higher level of activity usually is carried forward, causing the Pup to exercise more, eat more, and grow more. But, on the other end of the litter, that "runt" appearing animal frequently is not taken, and may by many unscrupulous Breeders be put down, or forced to breed with an equally as diminutive female, causing the problems stated at the start of my post. This smaller Dog, through publicity and an unreasonable weight standard set, can cause a lot of income for a Breeder. Maybe the good part about that is the people who can afford a $1500-$2000 dog, can also afford to take care of some very expensive health care issues as well. But, they have a dog who is within the AKC weight standard. |
Thanks for the info, the breeder I bought her from said she was a teacup,I'm sure they say that just to get more money for the puppies, wouldn't change her now, love her to bits |

I always feel guilty if I have to leave Daisy, I try not to leave her for more than an hour it's silly really as she is left for 7 hours at bedtime |
I work full time. About ten hours a day four days a week. I am Navy. But lucky for Amirah her Auntie Rachel, also Navy, works a different set of hours than me so the longest she has ever been alone is about four hours max. I feel bad even for that but it is all I can do really. |
As for potty training we have good days and bad days, but overall more good than bad. |

There are times when my guys just won't go out to potty, specially when it's raining. They really don't like to get rained on for some reason. Other times, they are prevented from going out, so, they have to make do. I have a Doggy Door in the Utility Room that is tiled. I put paper down in front of the DDoor, like when it rains, and let them decide if they want to use it, or, move on out to do it outside. Usually, they will (conditions being right) will elect to go on outside to potty. But, when they use the paper, I do not scold them. Though at times I'm not sure why they elected to use the paper, I trust them, and I think they know that. |
