Accused of trying to steal a dog. We were on our way to the dog park and my bf took aa wrong turn. We pulled into a driveway to turn around and I see a tiny yorkie. I looked aroundat and saw no one..got worried. I got out andof called to the dog andpark it cammeto right up to me like it hadn't seen athe human in years. No tags or anything...and I could tell it was elderly. It looked abused and sick. I didnt know what to do...but it was wondering all around..so I picked him up. Well someone came out and yelled, "Dont steal that dog!" Some trashy looking woman yelled at me and threatened to call the cops. I asked if she ws the owner and she said "I am now". And she snatched the dog up and took him inside...I feel so guilty..I shouldve done something...the poor thing was so tiny and frail. I know he wasnt hers...I feel so, so badly. Even if she is the owner, she's clearly a terrible one letting her elderly yorkie walk around right off the highway with no tags... |

That is awful. "I am now!" Doesn't sound very much like a concerned owner. |
Some people just shouldn't be allowed to have animals. |

Sorry for the typos, it was my phone autocorrect. But yeah, after the dog park we went back down the street and didnt see the little guy...:( I'm going to be haunted by this for a while. I feel like a bad person for not snatching that baby up and getting him to a vet... |

I can see where you would feel that way. Do you think it was her dog? Or did she steal it? If you don't think it was hers I would call the proper authorities. From the sound of it, maybe you should have "stole" the dog! |

He was half Luma's size....:( I feel SOOOOO BAD now :( |

Oh my Carmen, how horrible:( Can you report this to your local authorities. They might could go check and see if there is a microchip and find the true owners. Poor little baby:( |
if you remember where she lived drive over there the next chance you have and knock on some of the neighbors doors to ask if she has a yorkie, or if they know of one missing. before you go type of some notes to leave at homes around her in case peope are not there. I bet it was her's but she was just being a jerk. |
No...I did NOTHING :( I felt so shocked and offended that she thought I would steal someone's dog that I just left. We went back later today and didnt see the dog or anyone. I know, I totally dropped the ball. I feel so so bad. Who knows how long she'll keep him and try to breed with him or...ugh...dump him in the shelter when she realizes how old and sick he is... The best thing I think I can do now...I work at the local shelter and if he comes in, I'm going to try to bring him home and make sure he sees a vet, then try to put him in rescue. |
Ugh that's awful!!! Don't beat yourself up over it, I would have reacted the same way as you. In situations like that its so hard to think straight! |
If the animal looked uncared for and the "I am now" indicates she wasn't the dog's owner, I would call Animal Control and ask them to investigate the animal's situation and if it is being kept from its real owner and if it is in need of medical attention. You'd hate to think she grabbed up an old, sick, lost dog and may not be caring for it - and if it's hers, she can prove it to AC and they can check out its current medical/living conditions. |
My DH and I were on our way somewhere Tues morning. My DH slammed on his brakes because there was a tiny chi puppy in front of the truck. I was on my way out of the truck when I noticed two teen boys standing in the parking lot laughing. I asked if this was their puppy, they said YES. They were laughing because it was funny to them to watch cars in 6 lanes of traffic swirve and stop trying not to hit this tiny 2# puppy. My husband drove off because he was afraid that I would get out of the truck and he would have to bail me out of jail or pay for someones hospital bill,,,not mine. |
Its not too late to make a complaint, especially if you volunteer at animal control. Similar thing happened to us years ago...driving to the store a dog (chi) was in the street, it ran to the sidewalk I made Derik turn around as we drove past, because no one was out there. I got out and the little dog ran into a yard (no front fense) a lady came out of the house like instantly to see why I was in her yard (I had past a big bay window walking to the dog) I started to say getting that...and she cut me of with OMG!....apparently she had just said bye to some friends and her chi had excaped! She was VERY thankful especially after I said it had been in the street. The dog in the mean time ran right to her and she had picked it up it was licking and loving her. Derik made jokes about me trying to steal her dog, if she hadn't been so genuinely shocked and thankful I might have commented on her being more careful... I'm not quick on my feet in awkward situations either, but even an anonymous animal welfare complaint, or checking missing yorkie posts, is worth the effort. |

I talked to AC today and told them the approx. Address and to try to check the situation out. They'll call me if they find anything out. I've also been scouring ads to see if anyone is missing an elderly yorkie. |

Go on your local Craigslist and see if anyone is missing their Yorkie. I too would call the authorities. |

I cannot believe she responded like that. I'm glad you called AC. |

Of course there are a lot of less than normal people in the world but it seems that a dog owner would be glad that you were trying to help their dog and not mean and nasty. If it is her dog she may have had complaints against her about letting the dog wander. It might be worth checking with one of her neighbors or the police. She sounds like she might not be the favorite of the neighborhood. |
I'd call animal services give them her address and suggest abuse |

I'm just curious if AC ever called you with an update...? |
I was wondering too |
