here i go again, getting a second yorkie... Ok hers is the deal. I always look at the classifies , Petfinder, rescue sites. Just to see...i torture myself with the"idea"of adding another. Just like with my kids i have a dream in my head of the two playing nicely, running around... Well Allie is 3 years old, 8lbs,spayed,pad trained, pretty good little dog. Well i find a 2 1/2 year old male, neutered,7 lbs, pad trained, darker coloring (, which i like) and he's really cute. The family is rehoming him, because of new baby,( my boys are 17 &14, they could care less, Allie is all mine) and the family is busy with work, school,...yeah yeah. I know expenses will double. I'm prepared for that. Pros: I always wanted another. Very similar to Allie ( size wise) They only want 200.00 for him. Pad Trained, healthy, utd on shots and meds. Cons: we have a good routine here. Allie seems happy We rent and will be moving in February, harder to find something with 2? I just don't want to upset the balance in the house. Things are going good. I don't want Allie to suffer. I "think" she's ok with other dogs, very submissive on walks when she sees them. But what about in her own home. The lady is expecting an email from me...I'm soooo confused. I've always been so impulsive and just want to make the right decision. I wish we could have a trial run. Oh his name is Charlie. ( if i was to ever get another that is the name i like)ughhh not making this decision easy...help! |
You won't be happy till you try it. It is more work and supervision on your part, but twice the love and fun! |
Trust your instincts. Sounds like more pros than cons in your mind. In reality is there ever a perfect time to add to the family? They sound like a good match. All the signs are there. If the dog is healthy, you can afford the additional expense, time, etc.,why not? There will of course be an adjustment period, but that's to be expected with moving anyway, let alone getting another dog. And getting an adult is much easier than raising a puppy. If it were me, i'd go for it! :) |
I know!!!! That's my problem. I will always wonder what if...we have a day weekend coming up, I want to ask if i can try and see how they do. |
You should! If you could introduce them in a neutral territory, see how they would be together. Betcha you'd come home with Charlie! ;) |
I knew posting this most every one would be like go for it!!! I love it! My coworkers and friends are like are you crazy? They just don't get it! |
They must not have yorkies, haha! |

Yorkie owners are like, How can you just have one?????:D For $200, I'd get him, and if things didn't work out (which I know they will) I'd rehome the dog or give him to a rescue, for his sake and safety. |
Go for it. Double the pleasure. I would get him. sounds perfect to me. double the fun and kisses. and since he is already 2 years old you won't have the puppy mess. Hoping to see pictures soon. Anne/luci:animal-pa |
Ok i emailed her and she lives 5 min away. We r going to meet on Sunday...yikes am i really doing this?!!! |
WooHoo! Congratulations! PS: Best way to get dogs to bond is to walk them together... don't give them time to disagree... just start them walking. If they are tending to argue... walk faster... wear them out before you put them in a room together. |
1 Attachment(s) she emailed me back already and said exactly what I wanted to hear, if in a few weeks it is not working out she would take him back!!!I guess I get to try my hand at this 2 yorkie thing!! We meet Saturday at 11 , I already ask if we could meet outside and then go for a walk. Like I said Allie is really submissive outside on walks (she rolls over and gives her belly) But inside I have no clue, We have never had another dog inside! should be interesting! I think i attached a pic of Charlie, this is the one she had posted. It may be a few months old. |
Just to chime in...I was in a similar boat not too long ago. I thought I really, really wanted a second Yorkie but I had all the same hesitations that you are mentioning! I didn't want it to rock the boat or ruin the good thing that I had with Chloe (my 3yr old Yorkie). However, last month my husband and I came across the "one" and it has been wonderful! Within a week, the new puppy (Karli) and Chloe were getting along and playing. Chloe has not seemed depressed or upset. It was definitely the right decision for us. I think you can make anything work if you want it badly enough. Good luck! -C |

he is a cutie |
The pros far outweigh the cons! If you feel it in your heart I say go for it! |
I say go for it... Try it out, I don't think you will regret it :) We have two and they absolutely love each other. Good luck! |

Oh,go for it!! You cannt be crazy, that would be me. There are 5 dogs here and grandpuppys that come and go for weekends when mommie and daddy are gone. |
Oh, Charlie looks like a little love muffin! You're gonna love him! :) |
Charlie is adorable! I say go for it! |
i would do it in a heatbeat// he is gorgeous |
Like some of the others I would do it. But, I have been doing that for years fostering and rehoming Yorkies. With you it is different, you want to add to your family. Charlie is cute as can be and looks pretty young. I think this might work out fine. Let us know how it goes. :) |
Oh....How can you resist that face!! GO for it!! You will not look back!! This is from a person who has one rescue, decided that she would be happier with a sister and than drove to Tennessee to get another rescue!! They are such a blessing!! All 3 of mine play and love each other!! When you are sad, being around them makes you feel better so much faster!! Plus.....they can tell each other secrets!! |
Congratulations on finding Charlie! Charlie is very cute!! |
I'm with KJC, I never thought I'd get another because Teegy was so happy, but I knew in my heart he needed a pal and all the excuses I could find just didn't hold water, so I caved. Now Teegy doesn't get any peace at all as he now has a wrestling partner and they loooooooooooooooooooooooooooove each other to bits. Was a few bumps in the beginning, I was getting that "he can go back to where he came from look" from Teegy for about a week. |
He just looks like he loves cuddles |
We had one (also a Charlie) for a blessed 17 years and my one and only regret is that he didn't have a playmate. So, this summer, we got TWO :) Don't regret it for a minute! Best decision we could make. (Ours are littermates.) Good luck to you! |
Oh my goodness he is a real cutie pie:D I hope it all goes well:) Looking forward to seeing pics of them together! |
well... I say no, don't do it!!!! BTW .. could you give me the lady's number? I live only 2 hours away and maybe sense your not getting him I could call????:rolleyes: Just kidding.. he is a real cute guy. I am happy you found him! |
Ohhhh good luck! He is adorable! I love the dark coloring! Good luck on Saturday ! |
