A hawk just slammed into my door I was just outside with my girls. Mylee was snooping around in the flowers and when I called her to let's go in she came flying across the yard (separation anxiety...she doesn't like to be left behind). We no more than came in through the door (I didn't close it) and heard the bang. When I turned around I seen it hopping off and couldn't believe what I saw. I went out and it flew up to the trees, sat there a moment then flew off. I really think Mylee got its attention when she came running across the yard. I'm sure she could look like a rabbit. Anyway it was a small hawk in terms if most around here but still. Our deck is covered so it had to fly under the pergola to hit my door. Hawks are nothing new to us, but I've never had one hit a door like that. It left feathers!!! Scary! |
Oh my goodness! How scary! It was probably chasing Mylee. Thank goodness it didn't get her... |
Oh!! Thank goodness your timing to go inside was just perfect! I'd be a nervous wreck too. Glad the pups are ok & you're with them outside. Kiss them both for us Shelly ;) |
Oh my goodness, how scary. I am glad everyone is ok. |
OMG these hawks are seriously dangerous! A hawk landed on our patio railing last week when I was giving the fur butts a bath. They were sitting by the patio door to get some sun. I was so shocked @ it's size, it was biggest hawk I ever saw! It's been hunting the pigeons around the complex here. Please be careful when you're outside w/the little ones, be on high alert @ all times! |
We had a small bird hit our glass door and it was hard and startled me I could not imagine a hawk I would have needed to change my pants. Glad yall where inside. |
You must be terrified. I'm so relieved that no one got hurt. Give your little ones some extra kisses from me. |
It was scary, and I think it's still out there. The most common hawks we have are the large redtailed hawks, but that's not what this was. It's shaped more like a falcon and much smaller than the redtailed hawks. I don't think it was big enough to carry off either one of my dogs, but not that it couldn't do damage with it's talons and beak if it attacked. Still very scary and a warning that I have to be extra vigilant when they're outside. |
That had to be scary... do you have any kind of shiny or reflective clothing for your pup? I also put reflective junk (old CDs are good, mirror type gazing balls) in the garden, it's supposed to scare off the birds. |
Whoa....that would scare me silly. Thank goodness you all had just gotten inside! My goodness. Bet you are still shaking. I believe I'd have to go sit in a wingback, have a cup of hot cocoa and wrap up in an afghan and just hug my Yorkie for an hour after that. Please be safe and keep a watch out! |
2 Attachment(s) Was it either of these? American Kestrel (falcon) or Sharp-shinned Hawk Glad you babies are okay, though!! |
Omg! Now that is scary! I know that made you sick! Thank goodness she was safe behind the door. I would be prepared in the future. ;) |

It looked more like a Peregrin Falcon if you want to look that up. More black/greyish. |
This is about the third incident recently, where I've herd a Hawk made a stupid move like that. A while back, one (quite young I think) Hawk tried to catch My Female Becca and that was a bad mistake, and both mine killed it. |
