HELP! 11 wk old puppy drooling a LOT
 
We are in the car on the way home from picking up our new puppy. Before I make a fool of myself calling the breeder I wanted to check with you guys. New puppy is drooling profusely. Like all under her chin. Is this teething? Car sickness? Something else? She wasn't drooling like this while we were visiting with the breeder.

maybe nerves from leaving her home...not sure though hope someonelse can chime in and help you on this.

It could be stress from going to a new home or carsickness or both. For about a year and a half Jewels would drool while in the car. It still makes her nervous but she doesnt drool or vomit anymore

Whew! Car sickness I can handle. I was just panicking because I've never seen so much drool! She did throw up a bit just before I posted and it seems to be not as bad as it was. Our first Yorkie has never had problems riding in the car. Here I thought a second dog would be easier because I'd already been through everything once. Guess not! So glad you guys are here to help! :)

Yep My other yorkie chachi has never gotten car sick so different yorkies different challenges

Keep in mind that either a lot or little, it's a loss of fluids.
So if it's a long period in the car, they have no spill Water Bowls you might think about making available to her.

Thanks for the link! Luckily we only had a two hour drive. She's passed out right now but she did drink quite a bit and had a little food as well as some nutrical. Hopefully she'll eat more after she napped. Also, the drooling has stopped. Thanks for all the quick responses! Really put my mind at ease!

That's great that she has had a good drink and eaten some before sleeping. I agree most likely just a case of nerves for her - poor thing. But congratulations on your brand new puppy! I'm sure you feel better now that you're home with her too. :)

my old dog drooled everytime he went in the car from an 8 week pup right up to his death when he was 16, he was also sick on the occasion he went in the car so its probaby casr sickness, keep persisting he may grow out of it :)

Katie Scarlett did this the first few times she rode in the car. I think it was just her getting used to the motion of the car. She's fine now though. It only took maybe 3 car rides for her to get over the drooling.

Oh this gives me such hope!! We do a lot of driving because my parents live 2.5 hours away. I sure do dread monthly bouts of car sickness if this keeps up! As an update, Karli (the new puppy) is doing great. She's having regular potty breaks, eating, drinking, playing and sleeping. Chloe, the current Yorkie, isn't sure what to think quite yet!

I'll post pictures soon. :)

My karleigh does this every time we go for a drive, vets, groomer, thats the only places i take her, she gets anxiety so bad :( even during storms she will drool some.

Just wanted to thank you all again for the quick replies. I was just so scared when I saw so much drool...I've never seen a dog produce that much slobber! I thought I was bringing home a St. Bernard! :)

We made the second leg of our trip this morning with Karli and she did better. Not nearly so much drool and she only threw up a small amount once when we stopped to let her stretch her legs about 45 minutes in to the 2.5 hour trip. After that, she slept the rest of the way. When we got home, she peed and then ate/drank some. Sure hope we can continue to get her used to the car!

Glad you made it home with things going a bit better. Drooling can be a sign of fear or stress. Hopefully, after she is adjusted to the new home you can take her for some short rides in the car to try to get her accustomed to the it.
